McGlathery Island to Long Island

Thursday September 1, 2005 we departed McGlathery Is on Merchants Row headed for Frenchboro on Long Is.

Next part of chart

As you can see, down east really means going east.

Abbeys view of Busca Bris about to be smashed on the rocks due to light winds and strong currents. What should we do!!!

Tod's view of the same rocks.  Tod was actually just running close to the rocks to check for seals or other wild life.  He was never in any danger. I guess it is all in your perspective.  This is Halibut rock at the entrance to Toothacher Bay.

At least Tod was never in danger from the rocks, just the local mosquitoes as the picture shows :-)

Relaxing before the row into the lobster shack. It had been a very nice sail for day even though the winds were light.

Towing a dingy in light air does get a bit frustrating as the drag vs power available is quite noticeable.

The anticipation of the lobsters shortly overwhelmed the desire to relax.  Rumor had it that the lobster shack was about to close for  the day.  We rushed to the dinghies and  rowed over and convinced them to stay open for us.

The view from the lobster shack is well worth the row in.

French prices here too but we had Lobster anyway, infact a few un-named people even had a double!

While we were graciously eating the lobster and talking about the hiking trail the lobsershack volunteered that the do breakfast to order by appointment. We could pass that up so here we are rowing in for breakfast.

This is why the row in was worth it. I rarely make this kind of breakfast for myself.

The first of the labor day week end charter boats arrived late at night and took the mooring next to us.  They actually had a quite bevy of teenagers with them.  All of our boats combined would fit inside of it.

A nice soft view in the morning light.

We are off on our hike around a portion of the Island. This is near the start of the hike, near the end of harbor.

Start of the woods portion of the trail - very nice.

The woods trail ends at this Maine beach on the east side of the island.
