                   3rd Grade Vocabulary Words

 

  1. denominator – the bottom number of a fraction
  2. addend – a number to be added
  3. congruent – the same shape and size
  4. divisor – the number used to divide another by
  5. estimate – to round to the closest whole number
  6. symmetry –when a figure is folded both sides match
  7. sum – the answer to an addition problem
  8. product – the answer to a multiplication problem
  9. regroup – names a number a different way
  10. equivalent – the same
  11. segment – a line that has 2 end points
  12. ray – has only one end point
  13. outcome – the result of an experiment
  14. parallel – lines that do not cross
  15. numerator – the top number of a fraction
  16. dialogue – a conversation between two or more persons in a story
  17. atlas – a book of maps
  18. synonym – words that mean the same
  19. antonym – words that mean the opposite
  20. homonyms – words that sound alike but are spelled differently and have different meanings
  21. idiom – an expression with a special meaning that cannot be understood from the meaning of the individual words in the phrase
  22. prefix – a word part added to the beginning of the base word or root word
  23. suffix – a word part added to the end of the base word or root word
  24. fact – something that really happened or that really exists
  25. opinion – a belief based on what one thinks or feels although not based on actual facts
  26. conflict – the problem in a story
  27. fiction- a story that is imaginary
  28. nonfiction- a story that is real
  29. thesaurus – used to find a synonym for other words
  30. resolution – how the problem was solved in a story
