Being I have spina bifida myself I found this site to be very informative. I learned a lot of things that I did not know before I read it. Thanks for the great friendship you have given to me over the last few months. I am proud to have you as a friend. You might be a brat, but your a great brat :)

Danny - This is a really great site about SB in general, and about you in particular. You tell your story with both wit and grace, and it just goes to indicate that you have a bright future ahead of you. Your friend, Pim

Danny, This is a great site. Not only did it tell me alot of stuff I did not know about my own disability. But it also showed my husband alot about it that I never knew how to explain. It helped us both in many ways. This is a great site and you are a great friend.

I just wanted to say thanks. Because I was looking up information for a skit on genetics and stumbled across your amazingly informative website. I was totally going to b/s this and not even look anything up on spina bifida, but i'm really glad I did because you tought me alot. I couldn't imagine going through all that, but you seem so strong and nice and intellegent. Good Luck!

What a great story. I am a lot like you in the way I was brought up and how fiercely independent I am. I do not have a shunt, though. I do have myelomeningocele and I wear a brace on my right leg, I have no feeling in my right leg at all but I function well despite that and I drive without any modifications. I am happily married with 4 children of my own none of whom have spina bifida. I am currently in school for medicine. I am planning on being a neonatal physician to help infants who are born with sb. Good luck in the future.

My cousin's baby was born with spina bifida yesterday. He has heart abnormalities, a malformed leg, one kidney, trouble breathing on his own and no rectum. He has underwent a temporary fix of surgery to his little heart yesterday and is as I type undergoing surgery for a colostemy bag. His brain is deemed to be normal at this time. I don't understand why his rectum and leg did not complete formation. The plumbing in his heart is backwards. Is this common? His spinal cord is actually said to be the least of his worries as of now because it is covered and he has so many other health risks. Can someone please explain these things to me? What is the rate of survival for newborns that must endure so many surgeries this soon? He will have another heart surgery next week to make more serious corrections in his heart. I'm just overwhelmed that so many things are wrong and saddened that his start in this life must be so painful and harsh. I hope to hear from someone soon, Concerned

you did a spectacular presentation young man. Im proud to call u my friend. Quite a bit of the information I had already because I am a nurse. I've had patients with sb of varying ages, and have been instrumental in helping to mainstream quite a few. You are the first really intelligent person with sb I've met. It is a privilege to know you.
