Sunday, July 6, 2008  -  SHE SAID:  Hello from North Dakota and also I am here to report a first for me…and that is setting up camp to spend the night in a Walmart parking lot! Golly, have we moved up in the world or what! Actually, it isn't bad at all--it's well lit, in a nice part of whatever town we are in ...it begins with a W and that's all I remember after looking at the map on and off all day during our mini-iron butt type of day. I think we did around 400 miles, which was fine because the roads were almost empty, the weather was great and God was just smiling on us every mile we traveled.

But, we ate all our meals in the RV-- all quick and easy and tasty--oatmeal in the a.m., great tasting sandwiches on fresh bagels & potato salad for lunch, and a really excellent seafood pasta for dinner.  So, it is wonderful to save a few bucks on meals and to have the option of stopping when we feel like it to enjoy a meal or a quick trip to the bathroom, which is gloriously behind us at all times!

So, we are sitting here listening to the rain and some grumbling thunder and an occasional flash of lightening, which is a huge treat for us. We only get to see rain and hear thunder back in CA every 5 years or so, so like I said...this is a HUGE treat. This is indeed an adventure and one we are truly enjoying.

Monday, July 7, 2008  -  HE SAID:  Today we drove across the state of North Dakota on Highway 2.  (350 miles)  Good weather, good two lane road, but pretty boring.  Nothing to see in this state.  Almost all prairie land with rolling hills and some farms and the closer you get to the east side, the more farms.  Difficult to stay awake while driving.  There must not be many people living in this state because the highways are empty.  We are spending the night in a campground in Grand Forks.  (The first campground I have encountered that does not accept Visa or any credit cards)  It has rained here recently and the campground is a muddy mess.  But, we have electricity, water, sewer and wi-fi, so I'm not complaining.  No restaurants today.  Marce has prepared delicious meals in the trailer.  I look forward to washing the truck and trailer.  Driving on wet muddy roads makes for a dirty truck.
aveler today! The North Dakota landscape is green, lots of green with some lovely yellow fields every now and then, but that's pretty much it for miles and miles and miles...well, you get it.  Lots of VERY straight roads and the other thing about today is we traveled just to make miles, not to go any where exciting or to see folks we love--at least not for today. Tomorrow will be for that and we sure are looking forward to seeing all the Minnesota family...and Doug has promised us at least one feast of their world famous Walleye fish!  For anyone who knew me BEFORE Walleye exposure, it was well known that I was NOT a fish person. So, thank you Lord for creating Walleye!
