Y-DNA PROJECT
Revised 01/14/08
The
Mock Family Historian Y-DNA Project is conducted through Family Tree DNA (http://www.familytreedna.com/)
and FTDNA’s association with the DNA laboratory at
the
Our objective is to map the family lines of all forms of the Mock name, including but not limited to Mauk, Mack, Maag, Mauch, Mauck, Maug, and Moak.
The
group cost of the 67 marker Y-DNA test at this writing is $269 plus $2 shipping
and handling. Any male that carries a form of the ‘Mock’ surname may
participate by sending his full name, mailing address, telephone number, and
the details of his earliest documented ‘Mock’ ancestor to dmauck@cox.net. A DNA test kit
will be mailed to your mailing address during the next business day. The
test kit consists of three sterile swabs and three sterile containers to
receive the DNA sample. The sample is taken by rubbing the sterile swab
on the inside of the cheeks. Two samples are taken to ensure that a good
sample is taken. The samples are retained by kit number at the laboratory
at the
It’s also possible for a woman who descends from a ‘Mock’ family to sponsor a cousin or brother in the MFH DNA project. If the male cousin or brother is willing to submit the sample, the DNA test kit will be mailed to the relative and the invoice may be paid by the sponsor. The sponsoring relative will receive all communication and test results resulting from the DNA submittal as well as access to the online data at the Family Tree DNA website.
There
is no time limit on the Mock Family Historian DNA Project. It is anticipated
that we will be accepting new participants well into the future. It is
also anticipated that as the science of DNA as it applies to genealogy grows,
more tests will become available. If your DNA sample is already on file
at the laboratory, you will not be required to submit a new DNA sample.
One
test that is available to both sexes is the mtDNA test. This test traces your maternal line back to
one of the ‘seven daughters of Eve’, thousands of years ago.
The
following pages contain the updated charts showing the DNA reports with the
participant’s names and the names of their ancestors. The page after the
chart gives a brief description of the Mock ancestors in our project.
