The first installament was the original Dead or Alive for the This installment came in three versions: two for the Dreamcast and one or the Playstation 2.
Dead or Alive 2
The first one was released for the Dreamcast in the US. The graphics were significantly enhanced for the new systems. This was most obvious in the new backgrounds. They were now richly detailed, including clouds, snow, and even running water. Instead of the danger zone, some arenas had areas where players could fall anywhere from a few feet to dozens. There was one homage left though where players could be slammed against exploding barrels mounted to the walls.
The amount of booby bounce was now controlled by an age parameter that the user could set. The range of motion was severly limited compared to the original game. It was now set to a more realistic look and was less distracting.
The number of costumes had also been severely reduced to a maximum of three for each character. The whimsical costumes had been removed entirely from the lineup.
One of the original characters, Bayman, was replaced with Leon who had almost all the same moves. Helena and Ein were added as new characters
Dead or Alive 2: LE
This was an alternate title for the Japanese Dreamcast and featured more costumes since it was released at a later date. Other than that, the gameplay was nearly identical. This version also returned Bayman to the character lineup.
Dead or Alive 2: Hardcore
The third variation came out for the Playstation 2 and was considered to be the ultimate version of the title. In this version one character could wear a beige bodysuit (only collar and cuffs noticable). This led people to auction off the technique to acquire it on eBay as "The secret nude costume".
