Dorca Cobián

Born in Puerto Rico on April 3rd 1969. She says: "I was singing since I was born, I don't remember any day of her life she wasn't singing". She started studying music in Junior high School at the age of 12. She played flute in the Junior High and High School band. In 1989 she studied Choral Conducting at the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico with Professor Abel di Marco and Voice Technique with professor Maria Ondarra. Professor Ondarra recognized in her a great voice and talent to sing Opera and Classical Styles. In 1994 she started studying Voice Performance at the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico, with Professors Ilca López and Zoraida López. While she was studying she was frequently participating in several concerts as a soloist like: Vivaldi's Gloria, Bach's Magnificat, Handel's Messiah, Schubert's Mass in G, and Mozart's Coronation Mass. She participated in The Conservatory of Music Radio Program as a Solo Performer singing several pieces of chamber music and new pieces of a young and new composers. Her Operatic roles includes Pamina and First lady, from Die Zauberflöte, Mimi from la Bohéme, Lauretta from Gianni Schicchi, and Countess Almaviva from Le nozze di Figaro. More than sing opera or oratorio, what Dorca really loves to sing is the German Art Song, she always includes a beautiful pieces of this style of vocal chamber music in her recitals.

She was recommended by her professors to teach voice technique as a private teacher. She started teaching voice lessons in 1995. As a teacher, Miss Cobián has helped many people to improve their vocal capacities; she also prepared students for the Metropolitan Opera Council Auditions, her students won prizes in Puerto Rico and New Orleans in 2000 and 2002. She is now living in Phoenix Arizona, and she would love to help you to improve your voice skills and musical capacities.
