A: Each website is priced according to the number of pages and amount of content and animation.
After an initial consultation, I should have a good idea of what your website would consist of.
Please ask for a free estimate.
A: You will need Time, an Email Address, and Webspace. Here are more details:
TIME: You will need time to communicate with me via phone and/or email in order for me to build your website exactly the way you want it.
AN EMAIL ADDRESS: Most of our communication will be done via email so that we can transfer information such as images, text content, etc. You will also want an email address on your website so visitors may contact you. This can be the same email address or a different one for business.
WEBSPACE: Once your website is built, we need a place to put it on the internet so others can access it. (See the next question for more details).
A: There are basically three ways to get webspace:
FREE WEBSPACE - There are free webspace hosts out there, in exchange for adding pop-up ads and advertisements of their own within your pages.
COMMERCIAL WEBSPACE: These webspace hosts charge a monthly fee. The least expensive I have found is thru 1and1.com.
INTERNET PROVIDER SERVICES:
Optionally, if you already have an internet provider such as Cox, EarthLink, etc. you might have free webspace available to you without any advertisements added.
As part of building your site for you, I will help you decide which webspace to use and help you establish your own webspace. I can also upload your new website to your webspace for you at no extra charge.
A: No, it is not required. However it is very helpful to have a short web address for your website visitors (and for your business card information). There is more information about Domains below if you are interested.
A: Your website can have a variety of content. Here are a few things that can be added:
Images - Photos, graphs, charts, map to where you are located, artistic text, thumbnails, icons, buttons, and animated .gifs.
Text - Any information you want to add.
Links - Text or image that can be clicked on to take the visitor to another webpage or site.
Forms - Contact questionnaire, or any other form that visitors can fill in and click on "submit"
to have it forward to your email address.
Downloadable files - You might want your visitors to be able to download items such as a printable form (in text or .PDF format), audio files for instructional purpose, or whatever.
Background Music - Music in the background can set the mood for your site.
Video - Video can be used for demonstration, instruction, or entertainment. If you have a video clip you'd like to add, I can integrate it into your website using Flash.
Animation - I offer custom web animation at $35 per hour. This can range from animating a logo, a photo gallery, text with special effects, and custom made animated graphics. Ask me for an estimate.
A: I will send images of the website to you by email so you can approve the general
layout, color choices and font styles for the entire site. As the site comes close to completion, I will upload the site to a temporary
webspace (password protected) where you may preview it for approval.
A: By replying to the emails right away. And by providing any needed content (such as images, text, etc. that I request from you) as quickly as possible.
A: Once the site is finished, I will notify you for final approval. After you have inspected the site
and agree that it is complete, the following procedures will occur:
You will be asked to sign a "Website Acknowledgement of Completion" form. This shows that you approve the website and are satisfied with it.
Final payment due will be calculated and you will be emailed an invoice.
Once final payment and the "Website Acknowledement of Completion" form is received, I will upload your site to the webspace we have pre-arranged. There is no charge for me to upload your new website.
A: Yes. Although you have approved the website, there's always a chance that something got overlooked. Therefore, once your website is uploaded to your webspace, you will have a fourteen day warranty period.
The warranty covers any changes required for the purpose of correcting a website development error in functionality or content. Warranted changes will be made at no cost to you.
The warranty DOES NOT cover adding additional pages, links, content or other web components that were not discussed prior to final payment.
Website changes or additions can always be made later for an hourly rate of $35.
A: Yes. After the fourteen day warranty period, when there are no other changes to be made, a final copy of the website files will be placed onto cd-rom and issued to you. There is no extra charge for the CD-ROM.
A: Payment is acceptable in money order or cashiers check, or via PayPal. (PayPal users can click on "send money" and enter the email address: webmaster@julsweb.net under "send to").
If you are mailing payment, please let me know and I will give you the address information.
A down payment for half of the estimated price is required before I begin building your
website. The down payment is non-refundable after 24 hours.
During the time I am building your site, if you request to add extra pages, etc., it
will be added to the
final balance due. You will receive an invoice for final balance. Final payment is to be made prior to releasing the website
to you; this means either by upload to your web space, or by issuing a CD of the website files to you.
Q: About Domain Names...(What is it, do I need it, and how do I get it?)
What is a Domain Name?
All web address have a specific address which you type in the browser to get to that site.
For example, you might type in something like: http://www.julsweb.net to get to this website.
However, the REAL web address for julsweb.net is a much longer address. The address is assigned by your
webspace host and is not changeable. However, to make things easier for your website visitors, you can purchase a Domain Name (which is basically a shortcut web address). So, instead of typing in something like:
your visitor can just type in
"yourdomain.com "
Do I need a Domain Name?
No. The Domain Name is not required to have a website, it makes the web address much shorter for typing.
How do I get a Domain Name?
If you are interested in setting up a Domain Name, there are many Domain Name providers available.
For example you can get a Domain at http://www.domains.lycos.com which also includes 3 email addresses using your domain name (for example:
email@yourdomain.com)
If you need help with setting up your Domain name (purchase of the Domain Name registration, configuring the Domain forwarding to it will point to your website, and configuring the email forwarding so it will be sent to your email box), I offer Domain setup/configuration for an additional $10 (plus the cost of the Domain Name registration).
A: You may or may not incur the expenses below depending on your specific needs:
DOMAIN NAME (OPTIONAL): If you opt to purchase a Domain Name Registration, the registration is an annual fee. Additionally you may opt to have me setup your Domain configurations (see "About Domain Names" above).
WEBSPACE (REQUIRED): You will need webspace for your website. Please see the section on "How Do I Get Webspace?" above to determine if you will need to buy the space or not.
WEBSPACE WITH PHP SUPPORT (FOR FORMS): If you are adding "forms" to your website, the information submitted is processed with a programming language called PHP. The PHP code receives and validates the data, then formats it in preparation to be emailed, then sends the data to your email address. The webspace that you use will need to have PHP support IF you are using online web forms. 1and1.com is one example of a webspace host that includes PHP support.
