"
I climbed out of the main shaft of doug's tunnels into the garage. Mr. Stanley, cell phone in one hand, grasped my arm and helped me step away from the ladder. He told me, pulling me into a tight hug, "Freddy, Jake tells me you are the jeune premier who kept doug alive by breathing life into his lungs! Good work and congratulations! You're a hero!" Almost everyone in the neighborhood is here, and they gather around, patting me on the back, calling me their 'little hero' and hugging me. I am so tired my knees are weak and as i get passed around I start feeling like I want to cry, but I don't - until Mom grabs me and hugs me and says how much she was worried about me and she's proud of me. Then I feel my lower lip tighten up and even though I don't want to, I cry. I can't see through the tears in my eyes. I feel like a big baby, but no one seems to notice. mr douglas is still unconscious and needs the oxygen mask to keep him breathing. The Doctor says they need to bring him up from the bomb shelter as soon as possible and to a hospital. Mr. Douglas hooked a line onto the hoist in the garage and lowered it. With Vern below and Mrs. douglas above him, they are slowly lifting mr. douglas up, out of his tunnel. *jeune premier (zhoen pruh-MYAY) noun; The role of a young hero; also an actor who plays such a part.
