1964 New York World's Fair

Some of my photographs and other pictures

The General Electric building was known as Progressland. The exhibit contained the Carrosel Of Progress which used Audioanimatronics. As the audience moved around a central stage, we got to see the changes progress has made to the way we live by following a family through the years. The attraction was designed by WED (Disney) and after the fair the ride was moved to Disneyland. A duplicate ride was later built for Walt Disney World. Anyone who went will remember the song "There's A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" which was sung as the seating area was moved on to the next section. The rotating seating was carried on train tracks and wheels. It was all driven by locomotive traction motors.

My father worked for General Electric and was the only one in his office with children. As a result he was able to get all the free passes to the fair he wanted and even some special passes like the one above. We lived in Massapequa, which is only a short (30 minute) train ride to from the fair. We would go to the fair at least twice a month. My mother and I were there last day of the fair. As a treat, I got to stay until closing. I still remember the great times we had there.

Here is a black and white photo and color picture of the Ford Pavilion. The main attraction was an automobile trip through the past, present and future. This was also built by Disney. The spiral track in the front is where Ford cars travelled on a track through each of the different areas.

This picture shows the area just inside the entrance of the General Motors Futurama Building. In the color picture you can see large wing over the entrance. It was over eight stories high. The building contained displays of General Motors products.
