Part Three
I let myself back into the Motel room, half expecting Xander to be wide awake and waiting up for me, I guess this was my lucky night, he was still fast asleep. I looked at his peaceful face as he lay there and wondered what he dreamed about. Was it me? or was it someone else? I couldn't help myself, I suppose part of me felt guilty for my late night trip to visit Angel. Not that anything had happened but I still had that nagging thought that if I was being dishonest and going behind Xander's back to see Angel, then maybe he was doing the same thing. Was he truely over Anya? Was he looking forward to seeing Cordelia tomorrow? I mentally slapped myself. Why is it that the happier us women are the more obstacles we find to put in the way? I suddenley felt very tired.
I was awoken by the smell of fresh coffee. Opening my eyes I turned over to see Xander smiling at me.
"Morning sleepy-head." He sat down next to me on the bed and planted a kiss on my forehead.
"Do I smell coffee?"
"You do. I went out and got Coffee and Bagels for us. You been asleep for ages, you must have been really tired."
"Why what time is it?"
"Almost 11.30am and you should get up if we want to get to Giles' place for lunch on time."
I grinned and pulled back the covers.
"Are you sure you don't want to come back to bed for a little while."
"I really don't think we have time for that.......but hey who am I to refuse." Xander smirked as he started to unbutton his shirt.

After having lunch with a suitably embarrassed Giles, who knew exactly why we were late, we wandered in the direction of Angel's place. I had told him that we would probably be over in the late afternoon. The closer we got, the slower we walked. Inspite of my late night meeting with Angel I was still very apprehensive and I could tell that Xander was too. I needed to know what Xander was thinking so I stopped walking.
"Buffy? Don't you want to do this?" A look of concern filled his face.
"Yes, well no but I know that we have to get it over and done with. It's just that....this is going to sound weird but do you still have feelings about Cordy?"
"Oh Buffy." Xander enclosed me in his arms. His mouth was next to my ear and I heard him whisper, "No one else has a place in my heart except you."
I pulled away and looked into those beautiful brown eyes.
"What's past is past, every step we take is a step into our future and don't you ever doubt that, no matter what happens the only thing that counts is what we have together."
I smiled and suddenly felt like I had been unfaithful. I opened my mouth to confess what had happened last night but he silenced me with a kiss.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We walked through the doors to the old Hotel. A gasp from Xander reminded me that he had never been here before.
"XANDER?! Oh my god! is that you?" Cordy's voice echoed round the large foyer. Then there was a clatter of heels as she rushed towards us.
I cringed as she threw herself at Xander and planted kisses all over his face. To my relief he pulled her off him and smiled at me.
"Hey Buffy," Cordy said with a less than enthusiastic voice, which was just typical of her. She'd always seemed threatened by me and even when her and Xander had broken up, she'd still seen me as a threat. I dreaded her reaction to our news.
"Hey Cordy, how are you?" I smiled as politely as I could muster.
"Oh well, you know how it is working with Angel, all work and no time for a social life," she turned back to Xander," So what brings you guys here?"
"Hey what's all the noise down here?" Spike's voice interupted.
"Hey Spike." I called out.
"Buffy! What the bloody hell are you doing here?"
"I was just asking that." huffed Cordelia.
Spike appeared from the gloomy recess at the back of the foyer and sauntered towards us. I have to admit he was looking great these days, working with Angel had really sorted him out. Gone was the black jeans and t-shirt, nowadays he wore white t-shirts and blue jeans and looked more human, if that was possible for a dead guy!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A shocked silence had descended on the lounge that we all sat in. Angel seemed to be the only one without a horrified look on his face.
"You ARE joking, right?" Cordelia managed to mutter.
"No. We are perfectly serious." Xander stated squeezing my hand.
"But.....when? How? I just don't get this at all." Cordy looked straight into my eyes.
"I'm sure that both Xander and Buffy will be willing to explain all the intimate details later, but for now I think we should celebrate and offer our congratulations, don't you?" Angel smiled.
"And you.....how the hell can you be so calm about this? She was your one true love and your only reaction is 'congratulations'!" Cordy ranted.
"Personally I'm just dying to hear all about those 'intimate details'" smirked Spike.
"Shut up Spike!" Angel and Cordy chorused.
"Well?" questioned cordy.
"Things change Cordelia, as you well know," Angel turned to me and smiled,"And I have long accepted that Buffy and I will never be able to have a normal life and I'm glad that she's found someone who knows the real buffy and is still willing to give her what I can't."
"Thanks man, I know that we haven't always seen eye to eye and I know this must be hard for you that I was the one who can give her the things you can't so this means a lot to me that you understand." Xander smiled at Angel.
I reached across and gave Angel's hand a little squeeze.
"Thanks Angel."
"I'm just glad you both found happiness in this cruel world."
"OK enough with the touchie feelie, lets break out the beer and celebrate." Spike grinned.
"Beer? I think this calls for champagne, don't you?" Angel laughed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It had been completely mad, Cordy just could not stop going on about us being together and then Willow had turned up and Cordy had tried to rope her in, thankfully Willow hid her true feelings and told Cordy how great she thought the whole thing was. Spike just kept pestering me about the 'intimate details' in some things he just hasn't changed at all. Angel had dragged Xander off for a quite chat and I had been desperate to know what was being said. An hour later Xander and I finally had a moment alone.
"So? what was the little chat about then?"
"Nothing much." Xander smiled.
"Nothing much?? don't give me that, come tell me what he said."
"We just discussed slaying and he wanted to know how I stayed in such good shape."
"Bullshit! Come Xander you can tell me." I fluttered my eyelashes at him.
"OK, ok I'll tell you," he laughed." Just stop doing that you look like a demented cow!"
"I always know how to get my way." I smirked.
As I had suspected Angel had just given Xander the third degree about us. I know he meant well but it kind of annoyed me in a way. We were just about to head off when Angel's friend Gunn turned up, something big was happening and he needed help. Abruptly everyone switched into work mode.
"Can we help?" I asked Angel.
For a moment he looked unsure but I think he knew that I wouldn't take no for an answer and besides who better to help out than the slayer.
