The Dreamland Villa Ceramics Class meets every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from after Labor Day in September through the following month of May. During June and July we meet only on Mondays and Tuesdays. The class is closed for the whole month of August. Hours for classes are from 9 to 12 am and 1 to 4 pm. Members can attend all the sessions if they wish or only certain sessions according to individual schedules. We buy tickets for 50 cents each and pay $1.00 per class. We also pay for the firing of our ceramics according to the size of each piece. Share paints are available for those who do not want to buy paints of their own - a minimal fee is charged.
Our teacher is Gail Bowers, who takes classes on a continuous basis to learn new techniques and then teach them to us. Class members are working on many various projects at any given time. It's so true that "variety is the spice of life" and our classroom shows it!
During the year members enter as many as three metro ceramic shows and win ribbons every time. In January, 1999, one of our members won a "Freddy" award, a very classy-looking statue and is the highest award given for ceramic hobbyists. Guess you could say it's like an Emmy or Oscar for the world of ceramics.
