ORANGE SCOTT CARLISLE - JENNIE WAIT
O. Scott Carlisle moved to Randolph, WI with his parents in approx. 1850 his being 6 years old. In 1862 enlisted in the Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry and was honorable discharged June 22, 1865. He returned to Fillmore CO.
Jennie Wait moved with her parents to Fillmore CO. at the age of 6. After marriage to O. Scott they lived there a few years and then until 1891 lived on farms near Balaton, Russell. In 1891 they moved to Russell. O. Scott died in Russell being more or less an invalid for 12 years as a result of asthma. Jennie died at Pequot of a stroke of paralysis living approx. 12 hours after stroke. She died at the home of her daughter Ada and was brought back to Russell for services and burial.

CLARA CARLISLE - JOHN M. RYAN - ERNEST SMITH
Clara housewife and filled in the remaining term as county treasurer after the death of Ernest Smith.
John M. Ryan born in Shellberg, WI and moved to Bird Island with his parents. He lived in Russell for a number of years and then to Appleton in 1905 and married Florence Leonard 12/4/1918. He operated restaurants in various MN cities and moved to Sioux Falls, SD and was employed by Morrell Packing Plant for 25 years. Returned to Appleton after his retirement.
Ernest Smith came to Russell in 1893 and managed elevator. Elected County Treasurer in 1919 until the time of his death in 1930. Clara and Ernest were sick for a period of time but do not know the cause of death. I also do not know the cause of death of John Ryan.

James (Jim) was born with cerebral palsy and has led a very active and self-supporting life. He is a tax accountant. He is involved with Camp Courage, church, travels and last year (2000) he and Claudia went on a 7-day Caribbean cruise with friends. The cruise also served as a 10-year anniversary celebration. In the fall they were asked to join AXIS Healthcare Advisory Committee for the disabled.

Thelma was a housewife and for a short period of time worked in housekeeping at Wiener Memorial Hospital.
Venice drove cream truck for a period of time and then went into carpentry. Worked mostly on hospitals and schools around he state of MN. They lived in Russell all their lives. Thelma was in the nursing home for approx. 3 years and died of a stroke. Venice had asthma, emphysema causing heart problems.

Ellsworth was a Postal Rural Route Carrier. They lived in Russell and retired in Arizona. Ellsworth was on kidney dialysis for several years and died from heart failure in Sun City, AZ.

Ellsworth Swanson grew up in Russell Mn. He went to school there and eventually married Shirley Wilfong. Ellsworth had polio in his leg and had a limp from that. Ellsworth was the rural mail carrier for Russell for many years and also did bookkeeping for some chevrolet dealers in the neighboring towns. After retiring, Ellsworth and Shirley spent some winters in Phoeniz Arizona, and eventually moved there permanently. Ellsworth enjoyed playing cards and liked to play bridge and pinochle.

Colleen was born and raised in Russell Minnesota. She went to school in Russell and that is where she met Jerry. They graduated together in 1959. Colleen graduated as Valedictorian of her class. Colleen then went to the University of Minnesota and graduated in 1963 with a teaching degree in Home Economics. Her first job was at the Minnesota Women's prison, where she taught Home economics. She taught Home economics at Delano Mn. for a year before moving to Arizona with her family. She then started teaching at Glendale Elementary schools in 1969. She studied and received her Masters degree in 1977 from Arizona State University in Tempe Az. She then went into administration, and became an Assistant Principal in 1977 at an Elementary school in Glendale Az. She continued her education and in 1984 she received her Doctorate degree from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff Az. In 1989 she became a Principal at Sine Elementary school in Glendale Arizona. She continued there until 1997 when she retired from full time work, and continued to work at the Glendale elementary school district office on a part time basis.
COLLEEN SWANSON - JERALD LONGSTROM
Colleen is a housewife and has a Doctor's Degree in Education. Principal of grade school for several years and is now semi-retired and teaching teachers.
Jerald (Jerry) was a barber and is now in real estate and genealogy. (got me started and he is doing all the computer input.) Lived in Russell, Minneapolis and Arizona.

Pets: 2 dogs - Missy and Ginger really old. Missy had arthritis and heart problems (on medication). Ginger I was told just plain crazy!

Edwin went to school in Mpls and became a pharmicist. He purchased a drug store in Madison South Dakota. Ed has sold the drug store and is working there for a few years under the agreement of sale.
Ed likes to golf and does whenever he gets the chance.
EDWIN SWANSON - SANDRA SCHAVE
Edwin (Ed) is a pharmacist and owned and operated a drug store and Hallmark store. He is semi-retired and works now as an employee at the drug store, travels, and plays golf. The drug store has been sold and not they just have the Hallmark store.
Sandra (Sandy) is manager of the Hallmark store and does all the purchasing, etc. They have lived in Russell, Minneapolis, International Falls, and settled in Madison, SD.
Children: Brenda, Rebecca, & Eugene.

Charlotte (Char) is a housewife and worked for Insurance Co. in Minneapolis for 18 years and for Lyon County in the Auditor's Office for 27 years and the last 9 years as County Auditor.
William (Bill) was a self-employed mechanic for a number of years and drove school bus for many years in Russell and Minneapolis and back to Russell. Later quit his own shop and became full time bus driver and bus mechanic. Both lived in Russell, Minneapolis and Russell. Both retired.
