A Stand for your Okedo

PVC Stand

Back to Making an Okedo

PVC Stand

I also get more inquiries about my stand than I do my drums.
This is the standard method of playing a small okedo on the floor. This three-pronged stand is specifically designed for Eitetsu-style (short bodied) okedo. The main differences between this one and a true taiko stand is the material and the fact that it folds almost flat. I made the prototype at right out of PVC tubing.

It was important that the stand fold flat for transportation and storage. The front two supports fold down; the back one folds under. Cotter pins, inserted through the plastic, keep the stand rigid when it use. The cotter pins are attached to the stand with strings, to prevent losing them. Hopefully, the photos here show enough detail. As with the others, click on each image to display a larger one.

The hooks were originally bare metal, which scratched the wood finish on the drum. As you can see, I later dipped the hooks in a rubber solution that coats the metal and hardens. This is a dip in a can, available in hardware stores for coating the handles of tools.

When I get tired of wearing my drum.

I intend on eventually making a wooden stand for my drum someday.
