John KENYON b. 26 Apr 1655, Oldham, Lancashire Co., ENG, m. 1680, in Oldham, Lancashire Co., ENG, Anna (Hannah) MUMFORD, b. abt 1661, Oldham, Lancashire, England, (daughter of Thomas MUMFORD and Sarah SHERMAN) d. bef 1712, RI. John died 1732, Westerly, Washington Co., RI. The following from "American Kenyons" by Captain Howard N. Kenyon, published 1935: p. 53

John Kenyon appears to have come to the colony several months before his family. He testified that he started living on the land of Mr. Killum in 1683. Early in 1684 he had a daugbter baptized in Oldham Parish Church, Oldham, England. Sarah was the last recorded birth of this branch of the Kenyons in England. A family record states that the son, James Kenyon, was born 1684-5. This would indicate that his family came to the colony early in 1684. On 6 Sept. 1687, he was taxed 8s-11d in Kingstown, R. I. On 16 Oct. 1712, he deeded his son, John Kenyon, 170 acres of land in South Kingstown bounded on one side by land of Peleg Mumford, brother-in-law of John Kenyon. No wife signed this or any other deed of John Keoyon. This is his first recorded land deed. The record of how be acquired this land may have been destroyed in North Kingstown. He first acquired land in Westerly by deed from Joseph Brown, 13 Dec. 1709; from Jabez Tucker, 11 Aug. 1711; and from Francis Robinson, 21 Aug. 1711. On 26 Nov. 1716, he deeded land to his son-in-law, John Webster, in Westerly. In August, 1719, in Westerly, he deeded land to his son James. On 8 Aug. 1719, he deeded land in Westerly to his son Samuel. On 10 July 1721, he deeded land in Westerly to his son Enoch. On 3 Feb. 1724, he deeded land in Westerly to his son Jonathan. On 6 Feb. 1724, he deeded land in Westerly to his son David. On 30 Dec. 1724, he again deeded land in Westerly to his son Jonathan.

Mrs. John L. Kenyon of Wyoming, R. I., thought John Kenyon settled on the Wells place about three miles South of Wyoming, then (1905) "Clear Water Trout Farm," owned by the American Fish Company. She also thought he was buried on this place. John Larkin Kenyon surveyed this property and found in land records that it was owned by a John Kenyon at a date which would indicate John Kenyon. The land dealings and property of this John were quite extensive for his day and time. In 1727, be was on a list of the freemen of Westerly Town as "Old Mr. John Kenyon." In 1727, his sons contributed money for building the Episcopal Church of Westerly of whicb he was probably a member. However, this church was comparatively short-lived and most of the Kenyons joined the local Baptist churches.

On 8 Aug. 1717, calling himself aged 70 or thereabouts, he testified that in the year 1683 or thereabouts, he went to live on the farm that Stephen Northup of North Kingstown now (1935) lives on and paid rental to Major Smith in behalf of a Mr. Killum of Boston and lived there for eight years and Stephen Northup went in when he left it. His will was proved 12 June 1732 in Westerly. His son Jonathan was named executor. Sons John, James, Enoch, Joseph and David mentioned in will. No mention of wife or any other relatives of family. His inventory of personal property was listed at 180ú 8s.

David KENYON b. abt 1693, Westerly, Washington Co., RI, m. Mary ROGERS, b. abt 1700, Washington, RI, (daughter of James Rogers and Elizabeth ______). David died abt 1772. From: "American Kenyons" by Captain Howard N. Kenyon, publ. 1935

While living in Westerly he was admitted a freeman Feb. 1729. While residing at Charlestown he was commissioned lieutenant of the 1st Charlestown Company, 1742, under Captain James Adams (Civil and Military Lists, RI, p. 91). Three of his seven sons served as officers in the colonial wars or in the American Revolution. There is no public record of his marriage. The account is from a private record and is substantiated by the appearance of several Sanford names in David's family. Likewise there appears to be no public record of his birth or baptism. The births of all of his children are recorded in Charlestown and Richmond. In the census of 1774, his widow was living in Richmond with one other female in family. She left a will in Richmond. He was deeded land by his father in Westerly in 1724-25. He deeded land to Stephen Sweet 1734-35. He deeded land to his brother Joseph, 1732. He was deeded land by John Tefft in 1734. He deeded land to his son, William in Richmond in 1757. He deeded land to Benjamin Barber in 1765. He served a number of years on the town council of Richmond. His willl was probated in Richmond in 1772. He mentioned his wife, Mary, and all children.

(2) 1 Oct 1766, in Richmond, W, Rhode Island, Elizabeth STANTON, b. 2 Jan 1743, Charleston, Washington Co., RI, (daughter of John D. STANTON and Susanna LANPHEAR) d. 1831. Peleg died 12 Feb 1791. From "American Kenyons" by Captain Howard N. Kenyon, publ. 1935 p. 84

He was living in Hopkinton in the census of 1774 with family of two males over 16, two males under 16, two females over 16 and 2 females under 16. He executed a considerable number of land deeds and was deeded a large tract of land by Jame Ladd in West Greenwich in 1783. He was an invalid in 1790 when he made out his will. In the census of 1790 his wife, Elizabeth, was given as the head of the family, which included 2 males over 16, two males under 16 and 2 females. From the arrangement of children listed in will, it appears that Gardener T. Kenyon was the eldest son although Mrs. JLK listed John Stanton as such. His will was probated in Hopkinton, 16 Mar 1791. His three older sons settled in Voluntown, Conn., but Bardener T. Kenyon removed from Voluntoen and sttled on land that had been his father's in West Greenwich shortly after his father's death, as he was in West Greenwich in 1792. Peleg Kenyon had a mortgage on land of one John Franklin of South Kingstown for £4950. This mortgage was foeclosed by Peleg, Jr. in 1793 while Peleg, Jr., was a resident of Voluntown. No records military service.

Robert C. KENYON b. abt 1780, Hopkinton, Washington Co., RI, m. 1 Jan 1801, Ruhamah CLARKE, b. 20 May 1781, Richmond, RI, d. 29 Jun 1862, Fulton, Oswego Co., NY, buried: Mt. Adnah Cem., Fulton, Oswego Co., NY. Robert died 1 Jun 1836, Fulton, Oswego Co., NY, buried: Mt. Adnah Cem., Fulton, Oswego Co., NY. The following is an excerpt from "Robert Kenyon of Hopkinton, Washington, Rhode Island and Fulton, Oswego, New York" by Jodd L. Perry:

Robert Kenyon was born in Hopkinton, Rhode Island in the year 1780 and married Ruhamah Clarke on 1-Jan-1801. He died in Fulton, New York 1-Jun- 1836. In the 1820 census of Rhode Island Robert Kenyon was listed as the head of household having 1 male 26-45, 1 female 26-45, 2 male 1-10, 3 male 10-16, 1 male 16-18, 1 male 18-26; 2 female 1-10, 1 female 10-16, and 1 female 16-26. The 1830 census lists 1 male 40-50, 1 female 40-50, 2 males 10-15, 2 female 15-20, and on female 80-90.

In 1834 Robert and Ruhamer decided to sell their lands in Rhode Island and move to the Town of Volny, New York. After doing a moderate amount of research I feel that several things contributed to this decision. Robert's mother, who could have been the female 80-90 in the 1830 census died in 1831. Several of the children of Robert and Ruhamer had already moved to the Town of Volny and were becoming established. Robert's health may have been failing to the point that he could no longer farm and wanted to re-locate to a point nearer his children. We know from the records that he sold his farm at Hopkinton 29-Mar-1834, recorded his will in Oswego, New York in December 1835, and died in June 1836.

Although the census records of Rhode Island seem to indicate that there were eleven children from the marriage of Robert and Ruhamer, I can only account for seven. They are Peleg (will), Robert C. (birth cert.), Sands Niles (death cert.), Elizabeth (fam. rec.), Grishom P. (fam. rec. and will), and Henry C. (will).

From "American Kenyons" by Capt. Howard N. Kenyon, publ. 1935, p. 121:

He was mentioned in his father's will. He lived in Exeter where he witnessed a deed of his brother, Sheffield, 1799
