James WHEELER
James WHEELER b. abt 1725/35, m. abt 1756, in Queens County, NY, Magdalena
DURYEA, b. abt 1725/35, (daughter of Simon DURYEA and Annetje SPRUNG). The
following contributed by James O. Schuyler, 898 Cordilleras Ave., San Carlos,
California 94070, Part 9 - Chapter 1 of his book:
James WHEELER was born, location unknown, say between 1725 and 1735. He married
possibly about 1756, probably in Queens County, NY, Magdalena DURYEE, most
likely the daughter of Simon and Annatje (Sprong) Duryea. Magdalena was born say
between 1725 and 1735.
They purchased land in Millstone, Hillsborough Township, Somerset Co., NJ from
Peter Schenk with an indenture signed 26-Feb-1768. They were living in Newtown,
Queens County, in 1768 where James was a mason. Tax rateable and other records
show a James Wheeler in Somerset County from 1769 until about 1796. Around 1797
James Wheeler and his two sons James and Simon went to Ovid, Seneca County, New
York. They settled on lot 14 near Sheldrake Point. His daughter Magdalena most
likely went also, since she married William Walworth who came to Ovid at about
the same time.
The State Library for the State of New Jersey has compiled the following
