Dreamland Computer Club
by Mike Sorem
Where has the year gone? It seems like only
yesterday that I was elected President of the Computer Club, not December 2005
when it actually took place. Now, my term is over and the new Board of Directors
and new officers for 2007 have taken office. They have a big job ahead of them,
but I know they are up to the task. I would like to thank my 2006 Board of
Directors and officers for their hard work and support during my term. They made
things happen and moved the club forward. I would especially like to thank Vice
President John Shideler for his leadership during my absence. And, lastly, I
want to thank the members who support the club. Keep up the good work!
The January general membership meeting was held
January 3rd in Farnsworth Hall with approximately 40 members and guests
attending. Outgoing President, Mike Sorem opened the meeting and welcomed
everyone. He thanked the outgoing Board and officers for their service to the
club and welcomed the new Board. The results of the election of new officers for
2007 were then announced. Tom Santoro was elected president; Janet Harbaugh,
vice president, Tal Hilton, treasurer, and Kay Hawbaker, secretary. The rest of
the members of the board are Chuck Kressalt, Gaela Roberts, John Shideler, Tom
Sides, Doug Snover, and Mike Sorem, past president.
President Sorem then introduced new President Tom
Santoro and turned the meeting over to him. The usual business meeting items
were taken care of, and then President Santoro reminded the members of the
upcoming DVCC Open House. The computer club will have Room 9 open and staffed
with members of the club to answer questions about the club and show the
hardware .and software we have available. He then went on to remind our members
about the upcoming potluck to be held February 15 in Read Hall. More information
will follow and all members of the club are encouraged to attend.
There being no further business, the meeting
was adjourned and our guest speaker for the month was introduced. Brynn
Burtwistle, from Smart Computing Magazine, gave us a presentation about the
magazine along with a live demonstration about their web site,
SmartComputing.com The magazine has been a long time favorite of the members of
the Computer Club because it is written in plain English that we all can
understand. Their web site is an added benefit when you subscribe to the
magazine and gives you access to their other computer related publications as
well as having great information and free tech support for all your computer
needs. After her presentation, Brynn had a drawing for several door prizes
including free subscriptions to their magazine.
The Computer Club welcomes any member of DVCC to
join the computer club. We are a friendly group, and our mission is to help each
other with computers. We have a monthly business meeting with guest speaker,
classes, special interest groups, and question and answer sessions just to name
a few of the things we have to offer. If you have an interest or would like to
share your interest and knowledge with members of the club as a leader or
instructor (we are always in need of both), we hope you will join us.
