Computer Club
Citizen Article for March 2008
by Mike Sorem
Where has the winter gone? It seems like only yesterday that many of us arrived back in the valley for the winter, eager to get together with old friends and our fellow computer users. After a busy summer for those that remain in the valley, many key people got back together and under the leadership of President Judy Gardner, they all got back to work. Since October, the club has been providing a very ambitious schedule of classes, workshops, special interest groups, question and answer sessions, and many guest speakers in room 9 and Read and Farnsworth Halls. And, as the winter has progressed, so has the size of our calendar increased. Our club volunteer instructors have been wonderful keeping old classes going and adding new classes each month. New instructors have also stepped forward and answered the call fulfilling the club’s mission of computer users helping other computer users. WOW…… What a great group!
Our March calendar is again packed with many learning opportunities for you to take advantage of all for the small price of our $15 a year membership. And remember, you are always welcome at our monthly general meetings the first Wednesday of the month and are welcome to sit in on one of our classes to see what you think. For more information the monthly calendar is available in room 9, the DVCC office and on line at the club web site

Our February General Meeting was held on February 6th in Farnsworth Hall with 36 members and guests attending. After a short business meeting, our guest speaker took the floor. Kathy Jacobs, a Microsoft MVP (Most Valuable Professional) and author of 3 books gave us a presentation on Microsoft OneNote. Kathy has been with us before and is always an informative and entertaining speaker and this time was no exception. After her presentation she provided the club with two copies of the OneNote program for door prizes.
The next General Meeting will be held on March 5th, at 9am in Farnsworth Hall. Our guest speaker for the meeting will be Dave Whittel. Dave has been a leader in the PC revolution since 1979, is an author of several books related to technology and computing and is most recently writing for SmartComputing Magazine. He will share information on new products and new services that open up new horizons of possibility and solve problems you may be facing in the computing world. His presentation promises to be very informative for our members.
Many of you may remember a long time member of the computer club, Paul Quinney. During his time here in the valley, Paul served many positions with the computer club including president. Due to health reasons, Paul moved back east several years ago to be closer to his family and we learned that his wife Bev, also a member of DCC, passed away February 2nd. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Paul and his family.
If you have an interest in computing or knowledge about general computing, a special program or equipment that you would like to share with members of the club, we would love to see you. Why not attend one of our classes or general meeting and get involved……..
