Computer Club
April 2006 Citizen by Mike Sorem
It
is that time of year when the exodus starts from the valley. Those of us that
call “home" elsewhere probably have already made plans to return home
after our wonderful winter here in the valley. Those of you that call the valley
"home" and are fortunate enough to be able to take a break from the
summer heat are making plans, and others are waiting for summer and the fun it
brings. One thing we all have in common is that we will miss the friends we see
"only in the valley". Remember that the computer club is a good
resource all year round whether here or away. Hopefully, we all can "do it
again" next year. The Computer Club wishes everyone a safe trip to wherever
you are headed and a wonderful summer to all.
The March general meeting was held on March I in Farnsworth Hall and was
called to order by President Mike Sorem at about 9: 10 AM. Because our guest
presenter for the month was in a time bind, we delayed our usual business
meeting until after his presentation. Lee Otsubo, The Digital Photo Guy; was our
speaker. Lee has been with us in past years and has a great way of presenting
information on digital photography. His ability to entertain as well as inform
makes him a crowd favorite. Each year, The Digital Photo Guy™ presents his
Digital Camera Workshop series to countless numbers of computer clubs, community
college courses, and scrapbook show classes. He has been a frequent guest on
radio talk shows, speaking about digital camera
technology.
Lee's company, Digital Photo Guy, Inc., publishes multi-media learning CDs, and
DigiCue© Card products. For more information on Lee and his products, visit his
web site at www.thedigitalphotoguy.com
A door prize drawing was held after Lee's presentation and three members
won various copies of Lee's learning CDs.
After a short break the meeting was
called back to order and the usual business items were taken care 'of. During
the Old Business portion of the meeting, it was announced that the Computer Club
would be making a donation to the Farnsworth Kitchen Renovation Fund. Since
everyone in Dreamland Villa, including the computer club, will benefit from this
badly needed renovation, it was felt that the club should also do its part to
aid in this project. Thank you to everyone involved for making this renovation
possible.
Next on the agenda was New Business. It was reported to the membership
that our vice president and one board member have had to step down from their
positions for personal reasons. As per the club by-laws, John Shideler was
elected to the vice president
position and Gaela Roberts will fill the vacant board seat. Both will
serve for the remainder of the respective terms. Thank you to both of these
members for stepping up to these positions.
In response to a question from the audience regarding speakers and
classes, a discussion was held on how the club chooses speakers and guest
instructors. Because the club is a member of the Arizona Alliance of Computer
Clubs, most of our speakers are obtained from them. We are not locked in to
using these speakers, and we are always looking for new sources or ideas but
finding good presenters is often difficult. If you have any suggestions for
speakers or instructors or would like to try sharing information with the
members by giving a class or presentation we would love to have you! Simply
get in touch with one of your board members.
REMINDERS-
there will be no general meetings June, July, and August. Watch for details on
classes during that time. The new club web site address is: http://members.cox.net/dcccomputerclub/
Hope
you all have a great summer, wherever you may be, and hope to see you again
soon.
