Dreamland Computer Club
Our November 6th General Meeting drew 54 interested people to Farnsworth Hall. We had 3 guests and 5 new members.
During our business meeting we presented George Shoemaker with a Honorary Life Membership and a framed certificate to express our appreciation for his many years of devoted effort to make our proud Club what it is today. We also gave Herb Manning a Microsoft Mindshare baseball shirt. The Mindshare name and emblem has a special connotation in computer circles and we know it has a special meaning to Herb who is one of our founders and technicians.
After our business meeting, our presenters, Cox Communications, give a very impressive program on their high speed Internet Service. Their presentation along with the one time offer of a free connection and a free modem, convinced eight of our members to sign up for their service. Days later they were still talking about the good deal they got.
Our activities calendars for November and December are almost full. Only four business days are vacant. Our Mission is to help each other to develop better computer skills with emphasis on the novice. This year we have two Computer Basics classes. For those early risers, Dee McBain and her team of Paul Quinney and John Shideler have a progressive morning class at 9:00 A.M. each Friday. For the sleep-ins….and for those who have busy mornings, we have a 1:00 P.M. Thursday class taught by Gail Henderson and Dick Posz. These classes will be offered each month until everyone in Dreamland Villa is Computer wise.
For the more advanced computer user, Dorretta Anderson and her able assistant, Kay Hawbaker, teach an eight week progressive course on WORD 2000. We have SIGs scheduled for both November and December on Genealogy, Graphics, Scanners and SnagIt. John Musgrave and Jerry Young complete our monthly activities by offering two weekly sessions of their popular Workshops. If you have questions or problems, they can be solved, by attending either the Wednesday evening or Saturday morning Workshops.
In early December we plan to have a SIG on Digital Cameras. Suggestions on specifications and types of cameras will be presented along with their operation and picture processing. This should give the potential buyer confidence that he or she has considered most or all of the key points when purchasing a new digital camera.
Our December General Meeting program, at Farnsworth Hall, will include a "Must See & Hear" presentation (Azacc recommended) from the people at Smart Computer Magazine. This magazine is considered the best, most inclusive, and easiest reading magazine for people like us. When four of our members are subscribers …the Club gets a free subscription. We have two subscribers already.
We will also learn of the nominations of the new Board of Directors of the Club, and will vote on their acceptance. The new board will decide their executive positions.
Our January General Meeting is rescheduled from the January 1st to Wednesday the 8th. We will hear a presentation by the people of Ulead who will discuss Photo Impact 7 and DVD Workshop. For additional information on Ulead, click on to their Web Site
www.ulead.com. This will convince most computerers (is that a word?) that this will be an interesting program.Remember to periodically access our Dreamland Computer Club Web Site
http://members.cox.net/dcccomputerclub/. It is generously furnished and maintained by Bob and Ramona Summers. This is Dreamland Villa’s Internet Newspaper. Many new features are being added, such as the Dreamland Villa Board of Directors minutes of their meetings and the announcement of forthcoming entertainment programs. We ask that more individual Clubs within Dreamland, use this Web Site to publish their availability and their various activities. Many, already use this Web Site for their "Sounding Board". Contact us in computer room #9 for information on adding your Club’s activities to the Internet Newspaper. We hope to see YOU at the December 4th, General Meeting of the Dreamland Computer Club at Farnsworth Hall at 9:00 A.M.
