Dreamland Computer Club
We have increased our membership by 12 over the summer, which is a good sign that even during the "Dog Days of Summer" there is interest in computer knowledge. As long as the air conditioner is operating, our summer workshops and Genealogy SIGs prove to be a "Draw" for all members. We plan to expand our Fall and Winter programs for our current, new, and potential members. These programs will be offered based on member’s requests and popularity of the subjects.
Our October Activities Calendar indicates we have morning and afternoon "Computer Basics" classes available, along with the popular Genealogy SIG that has met each month through out the summer. An eight week WORD class starts on October 14th. We already have enough students signed up to fill all ten computers, however, arrangements will be made for additional students should it be required.
You can obtain your own, colorful, monthly activity calendar, by furnishing Dorretta Anderson with your current email address or obtain the black and white version in the office or room 9.
Paul Phoenix, representing TechSmith’s SnagIt, furnished a very interesting program at our October meeting. He left us with a good quantity of TechSmith Evaluation CDs. and other "Goodies". They are available for the taking in room 9.
On Monday, October the 7th, twelve of our members car pooled to attend a Microsoft presentation by Threasa Calvert in the auditorium at Sunland Village East. We saw a demonstration of the Microsoft Digital Image Pro program, Pocket PCs, Games and Holiday Products.
Our next General Meeting will be held at Farnsworth Hall on Wednesday November 6th at 9:00 A.M. We will exhibit items furnished by Microsoft Mindshare that will be raffled off and/or sold at our December meeting. We’ll also present George Shoemaker with an Honorary Life Membership for his many contributions, to our Computer Club. Cox Communications will furnish a speaker on the subject "Why you need Cox Communication as your ISP". Many of our members are considering this same question. This should be a "Must Attend" meeting for those who have had questions or problems with their present ISP.
Remember to use our award winning Dreamland Computer Club Web Site http://members.cox.net/dcccomputerclub/ This is the "Mouth Piece" of Dreamland Villa. Information on all of our 48 individual clubs such as Ceramics, Singles, Bocce Ball, and of course the Computer Club are all presented in our Web Site. There is also a variety of additional information on 52 Favorite Links including Taxes, Music, Arizona Information, and more.
We invite all who are curious, or those considering the purchase of a computer, to visit. We will offer suggestions and information. You, who have recently been given a computer, or those who have had computers for some time and wish to learn more of the intricacies of the computer, please attend our general meetings and/or attend anyone of our classes or SIGs (Special Interest Groups).
We look forward to seeing you Wednesday, November 6th at Farnsworth Hall.
