We cordially invite all those reading this article to attend our next meeting which is on October 2nd.
Our first general meeting of the fall and winter season was held on September 4th. We had 38 people in attendance including eight visitors. Several of our visitors joined the club. Our scheduled speaker could not attend due to a family health emergency. We certainly sympathize with Robert Allsup and look forward to his presentation in the future. After our business meeting, we inspected a computer tower from our computer room. We identified the internal components and cleaned the innards by using compressed air.
Our Saturday morning Workshops are always interesting. John Shideler is back as moderator, after a short summer hiatus. John can answer most computer questions on the spot. The most difficult questions are usually answered by the group…..or by trial and error. Occasionally, some research is required to solve a persistent problem or question.
Our "Compounded" computers are providing a good comparison of the Windows 98 system with the new Windows XP system. New computers, and those purchased in the last six months or so, are furnished with the new XP system. It is similar to the older 98 system that most of us have come to know, but it is also perplexing to some of us "old hands" due to the different format. We plan to have a class or SIG (special interest group) just for the members who have the XP system installed in their computer.
Dee McBain, Betty Thompson, and Gail Henderson plan to teach our Beginners class as soon as enough members sign up to make up an optimum size class.Dorretta Anderson plans to teach WORD 2000 in the evenings in October and already has a good number of members signed up. We will have sign up sheets for these classes and others, available at our October meeting.
There will also be a class "Want List" available, to indicate what classes, SIGs, or workshops are desired by our members. Within our membership there is a vast amount of computer knowledge just waiting to be exposed. Help us make it available to all those in Dreamland, interested in computers.
Our Dreamland Computer Club Web Site continues to grow and be up graded. It is still the Best in the West. We have Bob and Ramona Summers to thank for such a fine presentation. The Arizona Republic just ran an article that Sun City West unveiled their first official Web site recently. Did we show them? Click on our site to see what we have had for five years. http://members.cox.net/
