We will have our first general meeting of the Fall and Winter season on Wednesday, September the 4th, in Read Hall. All residents of the Dreamland Villa Community are invited to attend. In fact, we not only invite you, we encourage everyone who is just slightly curious about computers, to visit us and see our computers and teaching facilities in room 9. There is no charge. Our General Meetings usually include a speaker, who makes a presentation on a computer related subject. Before Christmas we plan to have a speaker on "The Computer and the Digital Camera".
We will offer beginners classes as soon as there are enough interested members to warrant the once a week, four week, progressive class. There is no cost except for the annual membership fee of $15.00 for a single person, or $20.00 for a couple. The beginners course includes the identification of the basic parts of the computer, the basics of computer operation, opening programs, making folders and files, using the Internet and sending email.
Advanced classes will be offered, such as WORD, which is offered once a week for eight weeks and is also a progressive type class. Meetings of Special Interest Groups (SIG), such as Genealogy, Graphics, and Digital Cameras, are planned. We also offer Workshops to introduce interesting Web Sites, answer questions, offer advice, and try to solve individual user’s computer problems as they arise.
Dick Posz has had a good following for his Genealogy SIG meetings all summer. His next Special Interest Group meeting will be held in room 9, at 9:00 A.M. on September 20th. If you are interested, or curious about Genealogy, please attend and bring a friend. Field trips are a possibility.
Click on our exceptional Dreamland Computer Club web site at: http://members.cox.net/dcccomputerclub/ Bob and Ramona Summers, our Web Masters, do a terrific job of presenting Dreamland Villa Community activities. Also included in our web site are copious amounts of links on information concerning legal, medical, computers, dictionaries, Federal Government, Investments, taxes, Insurance, Autos, Travel and many other topics of interest. You will amazed at the scope of this web site. There are even instructions for making your own Web Site.
During recent Saturday workshops we have inspected the internal workings of various computer configurations and have performed the most essential and easiest maintenance function of "dusting". Dust is drawn into the computer as the fans cool the internal, heat generating parts. The use of an aerosol bottle of clean, compressed air, will blow the dust from critical parts, allowing greater circulation of cooling fan air, thus extending the life of the computer.
Don’t forget to attend the Computer Club General Meetings on the first Wednesday of each month from September through May. Our Saturday morning workshops have sustained us through the summer, and will continue to be a vital part of our Fall and Winter Season. See you there.
