Dreamland Computer Club
General Meeting - December 4, 2002
The meeting was called to order at 9:10 A.M.
President John stated that this would be a streamlined meeting today. He welcomed the new members and stated that we had no guests for this meeting. Also dues for the 2003 year would be accepted now.
The nominating committee consisting of Ann Krasselt, Lois Hainje and Paul Quinney nominated the following to the computer club Board for the year 2003:
| Paul Quinney | Albert Hainje |
| John Ahrens | Sonja Miller |
| Joan Lewis | George Rauch |
| Gail Henderson | John Shideler |
| Mike Sorem | Peggie Jerabek |
Motion was made by Helen Rosenwald and seconded to accept those members to the Board. All voted in favor for those named. A special Board Meeting is set for December 12 for the old and new board members to meet together for organization.
The minutes of the November meeting were read with one correction to those minutes. They were then approved. The Treasurer reported that there was a beginning balance of $1,369.84 and after receipts of $329.00 and bills totaling $212.81 were paid there was a closing balance of $1,486.03. The Treasurer’s report was approved as read.
There was no old business.
Under new business, Luther Ness reminded everyone refilling their own cartridges that they should be kept in the refrigerator in a bag to keep moist. He then told his story of refilling his own cartridge. Dorretta Anderson said classes for Word 2000 would begin January 7, 2003 at 1:00 PM and run to 3:00 PM. Sign up sheet is on the table along with examples of the workbooks which can be purchased. Dick Posz reminded everyone of the field trip to the Morman Church for the genealogy group on December 20. Dee McBain will be having a class on graphics Thursday with the emphasis on Christmas cards. John Musgrave reminded everyone of the workshops on Wed. evenings and Sat. mornings. Luther Ness will be having a digital camera SIG on December 11 on what to look for in purchasing digital cameras.
John then asked the membership what topics they would like to have discussed as SIG groups. People were then told to be sure and look at the Dreamland website for a new holiday greeting message.
The 50/50 raffle was held with Joan Lewis receiving $18.50 which she turned back to the club.
The meeting was then turned over to Marcie Gunn and the representatives of the Smart Computing magazine. They included Mary Lafferty, writer, Ned Day, graphic illustrator, and Corey Russman, web editor. This is a monthly magazine written in plain English to enable people like us to understand and use our computers better. Some of the benefits of a subscription to this magazine are 24 hour trouble shooting help and tips and tricks for Windows 95 through to XP, hands on reviews and step by step instructions. There is also free online access to three other magazines. The membership was assured that if the winter people subscribed their magazines would reach them in either home. They then reviewed some of the articles on the computer that are contained in the magazine. Everyone filled out a form and these forms were used as a means of receiving door prizes. Members were told they could sign up for their subscriptions today.
Door prizes went to Minnie Barnett, Maynard Weis, Bill Henslin and John Musgrave.
It was announced that Dee McBain will be starting her new class soon. Luther Ness then took some pictures.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:30 A.M.
Respectfully submitted, Joan Lewis, Secretary
