John reported that Gail Henderson has volunteered to be our Treasurer with Keith Miller being our Member at Large. Helen Rosenwald has volunteered to be our 9th Member at Large.
John then made some comments on Paul Quinney’s work during his presidency and then told of his trip to Sun City in January to attend the Arizona Alliance of Computer Clubs. They will help us in obtaining future speakers for our club. Commented on the membership at Sun City and Sun City West. They have 2 nice classrooms there with about 30 computers and have 10 computers for one on one help. The two major clubs in the West Valley have approximately 5,000 members, however there are more computer clubs in the East Valley.
The volunteers have been very good and there has been good attendance at the classes. Luther Ness had 30 at his SIG group on virus’s. Dee McBain had 4 helpers at her beginners class and Doretta Anderson had helpers also. John thanked Doretta for her work on the Calendar. Also thanked George Shoemaker for the membership envelopes and badges, etc. and he will continue to work on the current membership roster.
Cox and Quest are changing ISP’s so everyone was asked to update their new e-mail addresses as soon as they receive them.
Ramona Summers commented on their problems with Cox and their new address and asking people to please refrain from sending them long forwarded e-mail messages. Made a remark about the article in the Citizen regarding the best Web site in the West.
Thanked Luther for his pictures in the Citizen and also thanked all the volunteers.
Mention was made of plans for the potluck lunch to be held Monday March 11, at 12:00 which seemed to be one of the only free days available for use of Reed Hall. Dee McBain and Helen Rosenwald are coordinators for this lunch and ask for help from the members and Board. The members were asked to bring any old computers they might have to the pot luck so everyone can see what the "good old days" were like in computers. Also any old radios if anyone has any.
Members were asked to fill out the survey forms and to sign up for any classes they might be interested in. Dick Posz will be having a one on one class for new computer owners who need help in getting started. John went over the calendar and discussed the various classes and workshops. Howard Hanson will have a lab on CDs and we are trying to get a couple of sessions of Quicken going in March. Will accept any suggestions or criticisms regarding classes, etc.
Under old business, we are sending out information on the web site, so log on to get info on what is going on in the classes and workshops. Jerry Young will be having a workshop to help those who are just getting started and have questions.
There was no new business.
Doretta recognized her helper, Kay Hawbaker and remarked that if you don’t get a copy of the calendar to please let her know.
There was no raffle this meeting.
Discussed AOL and MSN e-mail problems. Too many people at one time on AOL does not seem to go thru. Will announce at next meeting if they find answer to problem.
We were looking for a cute young lady for our speaker, but rather found a handsome young man named Ryan Osburn from Microsoft Windows XP. He said that they have been trying to make everything easier for everyone to use by going to real time communication. He explained the various advantages to Windows XP including good help and support. Some of his presentation pertained to networking and file protection. He asked for questions after his presentation and then presented the Club an XP disk to be used on one of our computers.
John thanked Ryan and Microsoft and reminded people to sign up for the pot luck. The next meeting will be Wednesday March 6. The meeting concluded at 11:10 A.M.
Respectfully submitted, Joan Lewis, Secretary
