MINUTES OF THE JANUARY, 2002
DCC GENERAL MEETING

DREAMLAND VILLA COMPUTER CLUB

General Meeting - January 2, 2002

The meeting was called to order by President Paul Quinney at 9:15 A.M. at Farnsworth Hall.

Outgoing President Quinney gave a last message to the members and thanked all who had participated during the past year. He then introduced the new President, John Ahrens, and turned the gavel over to him.

John then introduced the new Board and its officers as follows:

     President - John Ahrens
     Vice-President - Dee McBain
     Secretary - Joan Lewis
Treasurer - Ann Krasselt (staying on as temp. Treas. until someone volunteers)

and Richard Posz, Keith Miller, Betty Thompson, Bill Henslin, Annie Province, Alan Landstrom and Paul Quinney. As one board member has been ill, we need someone to fill that vacancy.

Gladys Kropnicki read the minutes of the December 5, 2001 meeting which were approved as read.

Ann Krasselt gave the Treasurer's report as follows:

Previous months balance $1,806.20
Receipts      309.00
Expenses      170.00
Ending Balance $2,014.50

Keith Miller reported 56 members with 4 guests and 6 new members present.

The 50/50 drawing was held with $15.50 in the kitty. Helen Rosenwald had the winning ticket.

There was no old business.

Under new business: The President commented on the part of the By-Laws regarding Purpose of Club and in addition to promoting computer literacy and encourage and assist members, we should also have fun. John thanked Dorretta Anderson for working on the calendar, thanked Paul Quinney for the articles he has been writing for the Citizen and remarked on Luther Ness' work on pictures.

Regarding sign-up sheets for Classes - we need to know approximately how many people are interested in them and also the labs and SIG groups. Wanted to know if the make-up of the Club has changed to the point that the points of interest in these should also be changed to accommodate the members' interest.

The survey sheets showed that 12 people have volunteered to help, with 3 people willing to help at the workshops and 3 willing to teach classes.

There was a mistake on the calendar - John Musgrave's workshop is Wed. evening - not AM. Beginner's classes with Dee McBain are Monday mornings, Dorretta Anderson has classes Wednesday mornings and John Musgrave will have workshops on Sat. mornings as well as the Wed. evenings. Wondered if there was a need for pre-beginners who have no computer yet or who have just purchased one with no clue as to how to turn one on. Dick Posz will help on this matter.

There being no further business, John Ahrens introduced our speaker, Matt McCann who represents Quicken. He has been a user group leader since 1993 and travels the country from his home in Iowa. Had 26 meetings in 24 days this month. Uses Quicken Deluxe 2002 for tracking finances for everyday checking, savings, investments, retirement planning, income taxes, etc. Talked about security and privacy and indicated that we could download zonelabs.com which protects the user from anyone getting into their system. He then answered questions from the members. Matt gave a very informative and entertaining presentation which everyone enjoyed.

John Ahrens thanked Matt for coming and urged everyone to make sure their e-mail addresses were all current so the new roster can be made up and printed.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:50 A.M.

Respectfully submitted by Joan Lewis, Secretary
