General Meeting – January 6, 2004

The Meeting was called to order at 9:15 A. M. at Farnsworth Hall .

74 club members and 41 guests attended this meeting for a total of 115.

Vice President Mike Sorem presided over the meeting as President pro-tem and welcomed everyone and introduced our guest presenter, Alan Chitlik, from MicroSoft

Launch team. Alan explained the features on the new notebook laptop. Alan also claimed the MSN 8 stops almost all SPAM with their new SPAM filter. Outlook Express 2003 also includes a better SPAM then before. It also contains a new "Safe Sender / Receiver" system.

If your e-mail pictures are too large to receive, they may be reduced from 2mg to 92k. Another product is "Office Publisher". This is a great program for home use. The program contains 78 different greeting card options along with personal stationary options

After Mr. Chitlik’s presentation, MicroSoft gave away many fine door prizes. Big gift winners were as follows:

After a short recess Mike called the business meeting to order at 10:45.

John Shideler presided over the 50/50 raffle with Garnith Carter holding the winning ticket worth $49.50.

Mike thanked the retiring 2003 board members for their services and especially Jon Aherns for stepping in as President pro-tem.

The 2004 board was introduced to those present with the exception of Elaine Westhues who was having a heath problem and could not attend. We wish her a return to good health. The meeting was then turned over to the new president Judy Gardner. Retiring secretary Joan Lewis read minutes of the December 2003 meeting. Motion by George Rauch, seconded by Howard Hanson to accept the minutes as read. Motion passed.

Retiring treasurer Gail Henderson gave the club’s financial report. We had a beginning balance as of December 1, 2003 of $2090.28. Receipts for the month were $391.00. Disbursements were $167.05 leaving a closing balance on December 31, 2003 at $2324.23.This report will be filed for audit.

Judy thanked Dee McBain for her services, Doretta Anderson for her work on the Word lessons, Paul Quinney on the Excel lessons and the beginner’s class, Elaine Stapes on her new class on operation of an XP system, Dick Posz on his Family Tree class, John Musgrave and Jerry Young on their Workshops and for all the others who so unselfishly volunteered their time to promote the computer club.

A big thank you to Yvonne Olson, Dick Posz and DeWayne Weicht for their services auditing the treasurer’s books. Thanks to John Shidler for conducting the 50/50 raffle. A special thank you to Bob and Ramona Summers for their untiring work on the DCC web page. Thanks.

Howard Hanson had no report on the December EVACC meeting.

Under unfinished business it was announced the winning bid for the unused program was submitted by DeWayne Weicht.

New business. This year the Dreamland Computer Club will cease publishing a roster booklet. We know some people do use this booklet but the "Right to privacy" rules have changed all of this.

John Aherns will be doing the club newsletter.

On Thursday, January 15 th Dee will conduct a class on photo And scanner use. Pat and Claudett Davis will give a class on Toolbars and the making of folders on Friday, January 16 th. We hope many will be able to attend.

With no further business, George Rauch moved to adjourn at 11:05.

Next meeting will be held on February 4 th at Farnsworth Hall.
