DREAMLAND COMPUTER CLUB

General Meeting - May 1, 2002

The meeting was called to order at 9:00 A.M. at Read Hall.

The President asked that people who are here all summer sign sheet so he would know whether we should have classes or workshops during the summer. Dorretta Anderson said she would work with Word workshop if anyone was interested on a specified morning 9 – 11 A.M. Dee McBain would have beginners class if anyone were interested. John Shideler would have Saturday morning workshops for anyone who needs help.

Ramona Summers asked that if anyone had any information they would like put on the web site, please see that she gets it.

Discussion was held regarding a spaghetti dinner. Helen Rosenwald had talked with Bea Tomczuk about helping with it and there were only about 2 days the hall and Bea would be available, June 27 or July 11. It would be open to the public and we would have to sell tickets. Also would need helpers. It was discussed as to whether we were going to do this to raise money for our club, or whether some money would go to Dreamland Club. Our club really doesn’t need the money right now. Do we even want to do it or as Donna Hanson suggested, maybe a garage sale would be better. That would be on the agenda for fall when more people are here and it is not so hot. John suggested we try it for the dinner and maybe some of the other clubs could help out.

We had 23 members present with 2 guests. No new members this day. As of the date of the meeting we have 156 paid members of our club. We started out in 1995-96 with one computer – we now have 11.

The 50/50 raffle of $10.50 was won by Doug Snover.

The minutes were read and approved and the Treasurer’s report was given by John Ahrens due to the absence of Gail Henderson.

Old Business – They tried to stay under the $1600 allowed for purchase of new computer as close as possible. There will be a $50.00 rebate coming back. Paid $99 for a 3 year warranty. They purchased it at Frys Electronics. HP 540 with 17 inch monitor. We compared prices and this came as a package for $829.95. Also have a new mouse for use in our lab.

Also someone left a monitor in the office for the club to use, but the secretary did not get the name of the person, so so far we have an anonymous donor.

Dick Posz mentioned a trip to the Mormon library for genealogy, but decided to wait until Sept. He is willing to have a group for May 14 if anyone is available. He asked for names so he would know if it was feasible.

New Business – George Shoemaker is retiring from his job and Dee and Dorretta will pick up his job. We all thank George for his good work and offer him a golden parachute and all stock options.

Ron Ostrom was our guest speaker on digital photography. He is retired, working part time at CompUSA and gives a lot of talks to computer groups. He has a different perception about it than most and gave a very interesting talk. Told us what to look for in buying digital cameras and readers for the pictures. Said mid-price range of about $500 is a good buy and named Olympus, Nikon and Sony. He then took questions from the members

It was announced that there would be no meetings until September. Meeting was adjourned at 10:45 A.M.

Respectfully submitted, Joan Lewis, Secretary
