Dreamland Computer Club

General Meeting - November 6, 2002

The meeting was called to order by President John Aherns at 9:10 am.

The President asked Mr. George Shoemaker to come forward. George was given an Honorary Life membership to the computer club for his tireless service the last 5 years. George wore many hats throughout his time serving the computer club. Mr. Shoemaker thanked the club for this award.

The President then awarded Mr. Herb Manning a shirt donated by MindShare for his help in setting up programs. Mr. Manning also thanked the club.

During the summer, we enrolled 12 new members.

The 2003 club dues are now being accepted. Please include your e-mail address with your dues.

John Kunkel is returning to Dreamland and will be available to teach some classes.

The General meeting on December 4th will feature a presentation by a guest speaker from the Smart Computing magazine. The magazine company will give one ( 1 ) free subscription for every 4 subscriptions that are enrolled.

DCC had 12 people attend the Sunland Village East computer club meeting. Those who attended deemed the trip a success.

The November and December calendars show many various classes going on each month.

Phyllis Sowdon offered her no longer needed computer to the club.

The regular meeting date for January will fall on January 1st so the regular monthly meeting will be held on the second Wednesday, January 8th instead. Mark this down on your calendar. The guest speaker will be from Ulead. He will speak on Photo Impact 7 and DVD's

Crescent Run Village invited us to attend their Crescent Run Computer Fair on Monday, December 9th at 8500 East Southern Ave.

Minutes of the October meeting were read and approved after correcting the item that Carol & Bud Rauch donated not only a tower but a keyboard, mouse, scanner and printer as well.

Treasurer's report showed a beginning balance of $1633.54. Receipts for the month were $157.00. Expenses for the month were $420.70, leaving a closing balance of $1369.84. Treasurer's report was accepted and approved.

Local program presenters may be available for presentations to our SIGs sometime in the future.

The club did receive 25 disks from Snag-It with 75 more yet to be received.

Azacc, which we belong to, presently contains 27 computer clubs representing 13,000 members.

Doretta Anderson reported that Beginning and Advance Word workbooks are available now.

The President asked for volunteers to serve on the nomination committee BUT there were no volunteers !!!!!!

Our computer club was asked by the DVCC Board of Directors to serve as judges for the Christmas Home Decorating Contest. Those volunteering to do this were: Gail Henderson, Bill Henslin, Charles and Michalene Herrmann , and Bev Tomczuk. This judging is to be done by the week of December 1st to the 7th. Good luck to all participants.

The President submitted a request to the DVCC board for $1800.00 to buy a laptop computer.

A decision on how to distribute the Mind Share gifts has not yet been decided.

President Aherns introduced our guests from Cox Digital Communications. David Bashaw, a 7 year employee and team leader and Phil Weintaut, hi-speed program manager. With high speed internet your system will be 50 x (times) faster than a 56K modem. Cox will bring the system directly to your home. There is no need for a phone line or a second line. Snowbird rates are available. Many questions were asked and many were answered. The President thanked the Cox people for their presentation.

52 people were in attendance.

50/50 drawing of $19.00 was won by Jerry Young.

Next meeting to be December 4th at Farnsworth Hall.
