Dreamland Computer Club Minutes
of
Meeting on October 6, 2004

President Judy Gardner called the October 6th, 2004 meeting of the Dreamland Computer Club to order at 9:15 a.m.

Donna Hanson, substituting for Gail Henderson, read the minutes of the September meeting. Some changes were announced. Pat and Claudette Davis will be available to teach some classes once a month. The Microsoft meeting will be on January 14th.

Treasurer, George Rauch, announced we have a balance of $956.75 in our Treasury.

All XP computers will be networked together. This should prove very helpful for our members who attend classes. And it planned to use DSL in the near future.

On our wish list, we hope to have four more computers set up with XP in the very near future. It would also be nice to have 17-inch monitors.

It was announced that several classes would be starting up. Our excellent instructors will again be available for such classes as XP, Beginning Computing, Microsoft Word, Genealogy and others as requested by our members.

There were 36 members and two guests at our meeting. We had 81 users in Room 9 during the month of September.

The Wednesday 7 P.M. workshop has again started up. Please attend and bring your questions and problems. They will help you through the simple ones as well as some complicated ones. Also the Saturday 9 A.M. group is available so do not hesitate to attend either or both workshops.

It was suggested that we do not borrow Software or lend it. It has been stated that one could have untold computer problems if you use a borrowed item of Software.

If you have a change in your e-mail address, please notify either Doretta Anderson or President Judy Gardner so you may continue receiving newsletters pertaining to the Club.

The slate of Members who will be running for the Board of DCC will be announced at the November meeting with Election to be held at the December meeting.

At the November and December meetings, many items of Software will be on display. These items will be auctioned off at our January meeting.

John Scheidler is in charge of maintenance of our computers and we owe him a big thank you for his help.

The raffle of $16 was awarded to Helen Rosenwald who then donated the money back to the Club.

Service Pack 2 is available at Room 9 for anyone wishing to borrow it to upgrade his or her computers.

Carey Holzman from Glendale conducted a question and answer session. Many from the audience stated problems and Carey efficiently gave suggestions to solve them. He has written a book, "The Healthy PC". He says it is written like a cookbook with specific instructions. The book is in its Fourth Printing and he now has run out of books for sale. Some items discussed were Popup Blockers, Firewalls, Routers, Key Codes and Updates. His e-mail address is careyholzman.com . We were told we could e-mail him our problems and he would respond.

Our next General Meeting will be on November 3rd. Please note the next meeting will be at Farnsworth Hall at 9:15 a.m. Our speaker will be Lee Otsubo who is known as the "Digital Photo Guy". He will cover two basic topics: 1) How to get the most out of a digital camera or how to buy one and 2) How to share and display great digital photos. Over the past year, he has presented to over 5000 people and has drawn universal applause as "one of the best presenters ever".

We try to have interesting meetings and this next one appears to be another one.

Any member of DVCC is welcome to come join our club. We welcome you. Most of us were unaware of the workings of a computer but by attending classes and workshops, it is surprising how much we have learned. Please come and attend our meetings and workshops.

Respectfully submitted by Donna Hanson, substituting for Secretary, Gail Henderson.
