DREAMLAND VILLA COMPUTER CLUB
General Meeting - September 4, 2002
The meeting was called to order at approximately 9:15 A.M. at Read Hall.
President John Ahrens welcomed everyone back from summer vacation.
It was reported that we have some teachers and helpers, but could use some more volunteers. Also there are sign-up sheets on the table for anyone wishing to participate in the various classes.
Robert Allsup, our speaker for the day, could not attend due to his wife’s illness. He was to have given a demonstration on cleaning our computers so John said anyone interested could gather around at the end of the meeting and observe while Jack Henderson and some of the other members explained a little about opening the tower and cleaning the inside.
President John explained how he can get speakers through AZacc and said that Microsoft wants at least 75 people at the meeting before they will send a speaker here and discussed going to Sunland Village East to hear some of their guests. He is hoping we can get some good people to come here for our meetings. Paul Phoenix, formerly of Gateway, will be our speaker for October and will discuss Snag It.
We had 12 guests and 22 members present. Two people came from Velda Rose. Also had 2 people join the club.
The Minutes were read and motion made to accept them as read.
John said he had sent a thank you note to the people who had donated the monitor.
The Treasurer’s Report for months of June, July and August was read. The closing balance from the previous month was $1,846.69 and after receiving dues in the amount of $35.00 and $10.00 donation the balance was $1,891.69. With expenses totaling $101.02, the balance on hand is $1,790.67. The Treasurer’s report was accepted as read.
John reported that they still had not received the rebate money regarding the new computer which was purchased. He was getting some static regarding date deadlines, etc. and is still waiting for the $50.00 rebate. After being told that no organization or club could receive the rebate, John used his own name and resubmitted. Here’s hoping, John. He said a lot of these rebate deals are not as good as they are made out to be.
Paul Quinney has offered to teach a class on XP if anyone is interested and John Shideler and John Musgrave will take care of the Saturday morning workshops.
Old Business – The sign advertising Room 9 as a computer room has been taken down due to the fact that there have been so many breakins. Don’t want to advertise that the room has all that equipment. Talked with the insurance agent and the computer group does not need its own additional insurance, we are covered by Dreamland. John then asked for anyone not requiring keys to Room 9, to please return them so they can be redistributed. There seems to be quite a few keys out.
New Business – The president said he had been getting calls and e-mails regarding the names and addresses of the members to be used in selling things. He said he was not giving out our membership list. Word 2000 is on all computers now except the old Gateway. Need to spend $100 to update.
Dick Posz says the Multigenerational Center has free classes for beginners on Fridays 1 – 2 PM and 2:30 – 3:30 PM.
Doretta Anderson said she needs an assistant for her Word 2000 classes. She hopes to start these classes Oct. 14 in the evening 7 – 9 PM. She thinks Word 2000 is easier to use than 97. She has and will get sufficient amount of workbooks at $15.00 to be used for these classes. Should be easier to follow and to keep up in class.
Ramona Summers hit the jackpot for $10.00 this month.
The President then said anyone who wished could come to the front table and watch the process for cleaning the equipment.
Meeting was adjourned at 10:15 A.M.
Respectfully submitted, Joan Lewis, Secretary
