Dreamland Computer Club

 GENERAL MEETING

 February 7, 2007

At 9:05 A.M. President Santoro announced that the meeting would follow the presentation of Microsoft Office 2007 by Kathy Jacobs.  During the presentation, Kathy told us that we could receive documents from others using the new Office 2007 system by going to the Microsoft website and obtaining a free “compatibility pack.”  She offered her files from the presentation at www.onppt.com/azacctour/index.htm to trigger this download.

At the conclusion of the presentation, three products were raffled.

Streets and Trips won by E.A. Robertson, a new member.
Digital Image Suite Plus won by Bee Westall, also a new member.
Office 2007 Pro won by John Arhens.

After a short break, the meeting was called to order.

The Secretary’s report was read and approved.

The Treasurer’s report was read and approved.

John Ahrens reported on the AZACC meeting he attended along with Tom Santoro, Tal Hilton, and John Shideler.  He explained that AZACC represented around 40 computer clubs in the Phoenix / Tucson area and that there were over 20,000 members in the clubs. By belonging to AZACC for $25.00 per year, the Dreamland Computer Club has been able to obtain the speakers for the meetings over the last several years.  He also told us that next year we might expect presentations by Webinars or Webcasts.  We would go to a web address and the presentation would be sent to the computer. We would then use our projector so everyone could see it. There could even be Questions and Answers with the Webinar, but the presenters would stay at the company.

Gaela Roberts announced the upcoming Potluck and gave details about the time and place.

Judy Gardner reported on the upcoming Family History Seminar which is occurring February 24 with registration at 8:00 AM.  She also talked about future Genealogy classes.  The Genealogy classes are free to members of the computer club.  She also mentioned that the club has a subscription to Ancestry.com and it is available by wireless router to all the computers in the classroom for anyone wishing  to access the site.

Judy Gardner thanked Tom Santoro for the donation of the scanner, copier and printer now in Room 9.

Janet Harbaugh talked about her “Word” class.  She did say that any member was welcome, but that coming in at this point might be difficult as there are things that are covered previously that would not be covered again.

Tom Santoro told members that Kay Hawbaker was conducting the “Beginning Computer” class on Tuesday mornings.  He also said that “Serving online Seniors” would be coming on March 14 to do a presentation on “Digital Cameras and Photo Editing”. Look for details on the March calendar.

The 50/50 raffle of $16.50 was won by Gerry Primus. She donated her winnings back to the club. Thank you, Gerry.

Respectfully submitted,

Kay Hawbaker, Secretary
