Dreamland Computer Club
GENERAL MEETING

 March 7, 2007

President Santoro called the meeting to order about 9:10AM with 56 members and guest present.

The Secretary’s report was read with Judy Gardner making the correction that only the computers in the classroom could access the Ancestry.com web site.  The minutes were approved with that correction.

The Treasurer’s report was read and approved.

Old Business:
John Ahrens told us that a new format set up by AZACC was probably going to be used by our guest speakers  at our general meetings from now on. Each participating club well need to have a web camera, microphone, and high speed internet connection in order to do the Web casts. This means that our meetings might have to be conducted in room 9 where the high speed internet connection can be accessed.  We would go to a web address and the presentation would be sent to our computer. We would then use our projector so everyone could see it. There could even be Questions and Answers with the speaker seeing and hearing us through our web camera and microphone.  Closer to the April General Meeting, look for an announcement concerning where the meeting will be held via our Newsletter or though Dee McBain’s weekly announcements.

Gaela Roberts told us that there were about 50 members and guests at the February Potluck.  She said that there was a wonderful variety of food and that those attending had a good time. There was applause from the members thanking Gaela for her time chairing this event.

John Schideler gave a few brief words about his Saturday Morning Question and Answer group. He said that it was members getting together to share problems and ideas about computers.

Judy Gardner reported briefly on the Family History Seminar which she attended in February. She said that she would talk more about it at the next Genealogy class. She also talked about the recent speaker who shared information about genealogy photos and about the Path program (a free program you can download to your computer).  The Genealogy classes are free to members of the computer club.  She also mentioned that the club has a subscription to Ancestry.com and it is available on all the computers in the classroom for anyone wishing to access the site.   Members are also welcome to bring laptops to class, but they cannot access the site from their laptop.

Tom Santoro told members that Pat and Rich from “Serving Online Seniors” would be coming on March 14 to do a presentation on “Digital Cameras and Photo Editing”.  He also said that he would be arranging an “Under the Hood” class by Pat and Rich for sometime next season. He reviewed the class schedule for the month and encouraged member to take advantage of the classes.

President Santoro reported that the club has 4 copies of Office 2003 and 3 copies of Digital Image 9 that were given to the club by Microsoft.  We are offering them for a silent auction sealed bid to DCC members. Members can submit a bid through the office and classroom for the next 2 weeks.

New Business:
Tal Hilton announced that she learned of a free download from Microsoft called Photo Story 3 that she thought was a wonderful program to put photos to a music background.

President Santoro then introduced the speakers from LifeLock, Mike Prusinski, Vice President of LifeLock Communicatons and Scott Simpson.

As Vice President of Communications, Mr. Prusinski oversees the public relations efforts for LifeLock, including coordinating agencies, media interviews, speaking appearances and community relations. He has more than 25 years of public relations experience.

The 50/50 raffle of $23.50 was won by Gaela Roberts. She donated her winnings back to the club. Thank you, Gaela.

Respectfully submitted,

Kay Hawbaker, Secretary
