        General Meeting

May 2, 2007

The meeting was called to order at 9:05am by President Judy Gardner. There were 21 members present.

President Gardner extended a reminder about wearing our badges, however, since she had forgotten hers' that brought a smile to everyone's face. She announced our board is now complete with the addition of John Highland our newest appointed member. John was introduced.

Gaela Roberts filling in for Secretary, Kay Hawbaker read the minutes from the April 4, 2007 meeting followed by Janet Harbaugh reporting on our treasury balance. Judy asked if there were any correction or additions to either of the reports and if not they will stand and be filed as read.

OLD BUSINESS:

Several badges were incorrectly made up and Judy will have corrections done. Updated rosters were now available. Ron Nipple made a suggestion that the board members names be asterisked on the roster. This is a good suggestion on future rosters.

"Smart Computing" rewards Clubs with complimentary subscriptions for number of subscriptions their members subscribe to. We have received several to raffle at future meetings. We were reminded when renewing or newly subscribing to reference DCC when placing your order.

The Club cannot participate as long as our Internet carrier is Quest. The speed is restrictive. Cox is not available in the area so other alternatives are being checked.

NEW BUSINESS:

Since our presenter, Steve Miller, was a no show the meeting was turned into an open discussion regarding Club issues. Last month John Ahrens spoke to the issue of checking additional methods of providing speakers for our monthly meetings. President Gardner discussed some ideas for both speakers and classes. We would our members to step up and she is hopeful this would happen.

A May calendar was sent out with John Shideler's Q & A on Saturday. Genealogy class is on May 16 with an open lab on May 23 starting at 9:00am. No other classes are scheduled.

A June General Meeting will be held on the 6th in room 9. Katie Gertz will demo the new Vista as. We can't get to much info on that. We should get the word out earlier so members can mark their calendars.

Other topics of discussion were as follows:

Classes desired by members:

Music and picture organization (4 to 6 weeks)

Music and video editing and producing (Gene Meade and Howard Hanson) Excel, Power Point, Word Class (repeated)

Scrape Booking

Everything on the new techno ledge

The Board approved setting up a continence fund in the amount of $700. This would be earmarked for large or unforeseen replacements if necessary. This will be listed separately from our operation funds.

We now have a new website and the address is listed on the roster. It is a work in progress with Kay Hawbaker diligently working on it this summer.

Ancestery.com is available on our Club computers and President Gardner is working to obtain "Family Tree Maker" at a substantial savings. She will report on her progress.

We talked bout Vista and what consideration we need to make before making our purchase. It seems HP has offers less and less customer support. Be aware of return policies.

Our meeting turned into a very productive open forum with many great ideas being offered. Thanks to all for your participation. let's remember to have fun computing.

John Shideler held our 50/50 with Tom Partington winning $8.00 and turning it back to the Club. Doug Snover had the door prize raffle with Donna Hanson winning an Encarta 2005 Reference library and Gaela Roberts a mouse pad.

There being no other business, Mary Kloechner made the motion to adjourn and Joanne Nipple provided the second and the meeting was adjourned at 10:30am.

Respectfully submitted,

Gaela Roberts for Kay Hawbaker, Secretary
