Here are examples of some of my weavings. As you browse through my collection notice that most of my wool is handspun and naturally dyed. Each rug is one of a kind. Since I create each rug with a specific person or theme in mind, the rugs below are only samples of my weaving and have all been sold exccpt for Cheyenne Style #2 and Sage..

Every weaving originates from my ideas and drawings that I compile in my sketchbook, from some of the designs found in the classic Indian blankets, or frequently, some patterns just develop as the weaving progresses.

If you see something you really like or get an idea for a weaving that incorporates particular colors or a specific style, contact me and we can discuss your request for a uniquely designed Navajo rug to fit into your home or office.

Cheyenne Style #2
25 1/2" h x 35" w

An exquisite and fine rug. The design elements are influenced by the Northern Cheyenne parflech design. I enjoy studying the various types of parflech bags from the different tribes of the Plains. I admire the paintings with bold designs and the beautiful colors.
Cheyenne Style #2 will be featured on television, Master Artists of the Southwest, on Homes & Garden. The rug was filmed while it was in progress in July 2002.

UTE STYLE
Size: 50"h x 41"w
Materials: Warp is handspun single ply natural cream color. The indigo is single ply machine spun and aniline dye. The brown is handspun natural churro fleece. The white is the "Wild and Woolly" brand yarn.

I like designs with simple patterns and bold colors. The Ute style is an inspiration from the old wearing blankets from the late 19th century.

TSELANI
Size: 39"w x 18"h
Materials: Most of the colors in the yarn are fro m various plants. The red is aniline dye. The grey is a result of carding white and black wool to get the various shades of grey.
I enjoy looking at the landscape near my home in Tselani. I love the variegated colors of the plateaus and the subtle hues of the dirt and sand. The shades in this rug depict the colors of the numerous mesas that are visible from our hogan.

GOING TO THE FAIR
Size: 40"w x 24 1/2"h
Materials: For this piece I used both handspun yarn and machine spun yarn. The gold background color and the green are aniline dye.

I started this rug in anticipation of showing and selling at the Heard Indian Market show last March. Although I didn't finish the rug for the show I did complete the weaving in August 2000.

SAGE (TACHEE)

Materials:The red is dyed with madder roots, the blue is aniline dyed and the light yellow is dyed with Navajo tea.
The design of Dakota Style is interpreted from a Gros Ventre envelope design. I enjoy simple and bold design as I have altered the shapes and colors.

"MOUNTAINS BEHIND THE HOGAN"

Materials: This is one of D.Y.'s innovative designs with wonderful, warm colors. Most of the colors are obtained from plants and roots, and most of the yarn is handspun with the traditional Navajo spindle.

The title of this rug came from her son, Kelsey. He said it reminded him so much of the buttes behind their hogan in Tselani.

THE MESA IN OHIO

GOING TO LONDON
Size: 29"h x 22"w
Materials: The brown and white are both handspun and natural colors. The red wool is imported from Sweden and has been processed with aniline dye.

Going to London design was inspired by a trip abroad. I did not know what the trip to London was going to bring and the design in this rug has an inquisitive form in the center.

MIDNIGHT IN FEBRUARY

Materials: Handspun natural gray in various shades. Handspun indigo wool. Red is commercial dye.

The design in this rug was created at midnight in February.

THE NATURAL

Materials: Most of the wool in this rug is handspun. Many of the colors are natural. Some of the plants used are Navajo tea, sage, madder, dock roots, walnuts and bloodroots.

Notice that this rug is not symmetrical. I enjoyed weaving and coordinating various shapes, designs, and colors to achieve an abstract Arizona landscape.

THREE POINTS
Size: 6’h x 4’w
Materials: The black is a natural color and handspun. The white is also a natural color and machine spun.

I like simple and bold patterns. This rug depicts simplicity and beauty by using only two colors.

CHIEF'S STYLE
36"h x 24"w

This is my interpretation of a third phase Chief's style blanket.
