Welcome To Harbor-UCLA
It's true!  Harbor-UCLA Medical Center has a unique identity. It is both a public hospital and one of the major teaching hospitals of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, and our program in the Department of Medicine offers a highly educational, rewarding, and challenging experience.  It's a long-time "Harbor tradition" that our trainees develop their clinical skills and medical knowledge in an environment that strikes an ideal balance between independence and supervision. When you join us as a resident, you will be challenged to use your initiative and clinical judgment in patient care, but at the same time, our faculty provides just the right mix of teaching and supervision. Education is the major focus of Department of Medicine activities, and this is reflected in both the teaching that residents receive and the teaching that residents provide to others.

Our residents see the widest possible range of internal medicine problems, and this experience gives them the skills and knowledge to succeed in any internal medicine career. Our graduates have accepted academic general internal medicine and subspecialty faculty positions, entered general medicine and subspecialty fellowships, and have joined general and subspecialty medicine practices throughout California and the U.S.  100% of our 2007 graduates were certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

The bottom line? We believe that graduates of our training program get much more than an outstanding medical education at Harbor-UCLA. Our residents develop the camaraderie that comes from facing challenging clinical experiences and the opportunity to make a difference to our patients, many of whom have no other sources of medical care. This Harbor tradition makes a lasting impression on our graduates and continues to influence positively their subsequent professional lives.  We hope that you will strongly consider Harbor-UCLA Medical Center for the next phase of your medical career in internal medicine.
