E-lessons Homepage

Hi, At some point you showed interest in information about our material (Waldorf/WideHorizon Education Resources). We now have available nearly 400 e-lessons available on the internet - please see details below.. We are hoping to make these e-lessons available free and as a start the following special offer is now available. You can choose 3 e-lessons and we will send you them free. A list of e-lessons is available at http://members.cox.net/e-lessons/ - please choose specific e-lessons from the list (E-L 8.05/whatever) – do not request a complete civilization (for example, Egypt). It includes the Ancient Civilizations, History of California, Fractions and Multiplication Tables. The lessons contain stories, dramas and many art and craft activities. Part of our organization is now non-profit and you can view what we are involved at http://members.cox.net/tei.

How to order? Simply send us an email to tei@cox.net and include (in this order please) your last name, first name, grade you teach, school, city, state, zip, and the titles of the 3 e-lessons and we will send the 3 e-lessons in pdf format to your e-mail address. Please only include the information in the order above and nothing else – thanks.

Why we are doing this? The following is from a piece of research Improving Education in Californiaavailable at http://members.cox.net/tei/ImprovingEducationinCalifornia.pdf. In it the author states, “Originally from the UK, I, like my British colleagues, do not usually use words like magnificent but that is the word I use to describe teachers in California. The bureaucracy continually does them enormous dis-service. People become teachers usually because they have something to give. It is a heavy burden to go before 25-35 students hour after hour, day after day, week after week, year after year and those that do possess something very special. I do not think it is coincidence that in countries where teachers are respected and empowered students are high-achievers; in countries where they are not respected and disempowered students achieve less. For optimizing performance teachers need our respect and support. Aside from parents they know the children better than anyone. They need a thorough professional training and further in-service support and courses. They also need to be empowered.”

We would like to make a contribution to optimizing students’ learning and wellbeing. Dr. David L. Mollet has tried for 25 years to make a contribution to education in the USA but has been unable to do so (in comparison see his experience in New Zealand, at http://members.cox.net/tei/NewZealand_Experience.pdf). We are going to try to start a grass roots movement and hope you will be sympathetic to this cause. When we know that enough teachers in a particular area are sympathetic we will see if it is possible to establish a chapter of our organization. We shall not request money or, for that matter, anything else at any time. Our sole objective is to improve students’ education and the only thing we ask from you is a commitment to this end; and yes, we appreciate that this task will take many, many years but the alternative to do nothing is unacceptable.

Please note that we also have available, as pdfs or physical copies, 49 SubUnits (Waldorf – Ancient Civilizations, History of California, Fractions and Multiplication Tables) or 9 Teaching Packs (WideHorizon – Ancient Civilizations) and, in addition, we have papyrus available. If you are interested in purchasing Waldorf or WideHorizon Education Resources material please go to http://members.cox.net/waldorfedu/index.html and http://members.cox.net/waldorfedu/weredu/index.html respectively. Information on the papyrus is at http://members.cox.net/waldorfedu/waldorfeduPages/Papyrus.html

The ancient civilization e-lessons are based on both Waldorf and WideHorizon Education Resources material. The material was originally written and produced in New Zealand based on the Waldorf approach to education. It consisted of nine ancient civilizations (Prehistory, Mesopotamia, Egypt, Kush, Israelites, Greece, India, China & Rome) produced in thirty-two SubUnits, each SubUnit could be purchased separately and the purchaser was given permission to photocopy the material for one classroom.

On moving to California, the material was customized for the USA market. Detailed lesson guidelines and assessment and monitoring procedures were added with some upgrading of the material and was produced under the name WideHorizon Education Resources in the form of nine Starter/Classroom Packs, one for each civilization The only difference between a Starter and Classroom Pack was the number of SRBs (Student Reference Books). A Starter Pack contains one SRB while a Classroom Pack contains thirty-five SRBs.

The e-lesson material is usually based on the WideHorizon material but also contains Waldorf material where appropriate. On rare occasions there is some duplication of the titles of lessons usually where there was not enough space in the customized material so content from both versions was included in the e-lessons (for example Pompeii). Viewing the page numbers at the end of each e-lesson title (for complete list see http://members.cox.net/e-lessons/ ) provides specific information as to what material the e-lesson was based on. Alternatively, the pages of any e-lesson are in red on the content pages at the end of each e-lesson.
