According to the Twelfth Census of the United States, State of Connecticut, County of New Haven, Town of Hamden, Supervisor's District No. 26, Enumeration District No.313, Sheet No. 17, Line 314: Theodore Holm, his wife Elizabeth and three children were living in Hamden. The census indicated that he came to this country from Germany in 1890; that he was married in 1893; and his occupation was given as "house painter". The three children were: Joseph (my father), born in August 1895; Anke, born in March 1897; and Elvira, born in 1898.

A certified copy of the marriage record obtained from New Haven Vital Records Vol. 38, Page 215 indicates that on July 1, 1893 Theodore married Elizabeth Andersen, who was born December 9, 1873 in Copenhagen, Denmark. (Theodore's birthplace was shown as Germany and both parents were Danes)
From Father John Casey of St. Boniface Catholic Church in New Haven, CT we obtained a certified copy of the church record indicating they were married "according to the Rite of the Roman Catholic Church". The ceremony was performed by Pastor Jos. A. Schaele. Herman Andersen and Anna Grabb were witnesses. Neither the Vital Records or the church identifies the location of the marriage other than New Haven.
A certified copy of Theodore's death record obtained from the Hamden Town Clerk's office gives a date of August 4, 1903 and the cause was pulmonary tuberculous. His final resting place is Hamden Plains Cemetery in Hamden, CT. His place of birth was given as "Dalham, Schleswig, Tondern, Sweden"; the father was Peter Holm and the mother was Anke M. Lindberg, both Danes.

During a visit to the cemetery in July of 1997, I talked to the Sexton, John Warner. We found that the only record of the burial is a 3 x 5 index card indicating that he died August 14, 1903 and that he was buried August 17, 1903. The actual gravesite could not be located.
The "Holm" family bible, traditionally handed down to the oldest son,
is now in the hands of my brother, Craige Granniss Holm, in Damascus, MD.
The information about Theodore in the bible, according to my copy, shows that he married Elizabeth Andersen on July 1, 1903. They had three children: Joseph Craig, born August 1895; Anke Marie, born March 1897; and Elvira Elizabeth, born October 1898. There is also a notation that he died August 19, 1903. (we now know he was buried August 17)
The bible also indicates that Joseph and Anke were born in Hamden, CT but Elvira was born in Boston, MA.
On September 2, 2001, the City Clerk's office for Baston, MA advised by mail that: "the name of Elvira E. Holm, daughter of Theodore and Elizabeth, doe not appear in the indexes of birth from 1892 to 1900 inclusive".

Story has it that Theodore could not find work in Hamden so he moved to Boston. This would mean that  they left after Anke was born in Hamden in March 1897 and they returned before the census was taken in June of 1900. So far the move is unconfirmed.
My mother, Alva Granniss Arnold, put together some information on the "Holm" genealogy. I assume she gathered this information by talking to the relatives then living and recorded what they could remember. According to her notes, Theodore was born in Schleswig-Holstein of Danish parents, but was registered as a German when he was born. She also mentions two additional children: Else and Andrew, twins who died at birth. These note also mention:
Uncle Jeppe and Aunt Hannah.  I can now relate this to Theodore's brother, Jeppe Poulsen Holm, born April 26, 1855. One of their seven children was Anke Caroline who married Einar Hansen and we knew as "Carrie" when they lived in Louisa, Virginia.
Tante Betilda and Ericksen.  This could be Theodore's sister, Bothilda, born January 3, 1866.
There is also reference to "Kristina" who stayed behind in Denmark and the 22nd child, Caroline, who also stayed behind.
