MainMission:2000 Convention Coverage ---The Model Exhibit---
Well the convention has come and gone. The Models Exhibit was a success by all accounts. Here are a few pictures of some of the models that were displayed. If anyone has any good shots of the models in the display I'd like to post them here.
--Gill Brumana displayed his Marvelous Super swift full size replica. Even though it was not finished it captured the eye with its attention to detail. This will be a model to see once complete. Gill tells me this is five months work and for those who make theese replicas, you have to know this is remarkable speed. Gill also donated his Scratch built Ultra Probe ship to the auction and it went for $500. This model was the one seen at the Breakaway con. I hope the model made it home with its new owner. Gill brought a prototype AMT Eagle accurizing kit too, He will be making this available soon. Gill and his modeling services can be found here: www.moonbase.models.homepage.com
I found this write up on the model at Starshipmodeler: http://www.starshipmodeler.com/gallery2/gb_ultra.htm
Thanks to Gill Brumana for some of the images on this page.
--Donald Hayunga sent his Metaprobe for the Exhibit via Steve Mcgrath. This was built to the same scale as the AMT 12" Eagle. I believe it was the one he had at Breakaway for those who seen it there too. Fine detail in this replica. Metaprobe built by Donald Hayunga
--Brian Boskind's Fabulous 3 X 4 foot Moon base Alpha model. He worked on it to the closing of the display room getting the reflective tape on all the buildings so when lit with a Flash or lamp, the windows looked like they were backlit. Just as the studio model was lit. Most impressive. I'd like to see the shots taken with the flash but I don't know who took them. If anyone has images, could they send them to me? Here are some of my Eagle: Main Motors 44" Eagle 2
Some of the other Exhibits included:
--Steve Mcgrath for his updated Tech Manual and other reference material. He has some interesting ideas on how to modernize the hardware to today's actual capabilities. Johnny Byrne said to Chris Penfold while studying the 3D views, "Wouldn't this have been excellent when writing the episodes?" Thanks to Steve for all his help. e-mail NhtHwk1@aol.com
--Jim Small was not able to come but arranged for Steve to bring all the different Eagle configurations in 12" scale. It was nice to see them all lined up. The Kaldorian ship that can be seen on Jims EIMB pages looks better in person than it does there. This is probably the best looking garage kit buildup I have seen, the detailing was superb. Jim and his modeling services can be found here:
--Robert Ruiz provided two Moon Buggies, A Chris Trice 5" built up and painted by Jim Small and a tiny NemoTechnik. Nice to see the different scales. Cool also because it now sits on my desk, Thanks Robert (!).
--Mark Shaw provided an original booster unit as seen in the ep New Adam New Eve. Much appreciated by all who seen it. It was in the 44" scale.
Some of the models that could not make it included:
--Chris Trice's 44"Eagle, I wanted to see this one most of all but Chris had a job come up at the last minute and could not make it to the con. He is working on "Saving Private Ryan" the series with S. Speilberg. Way to go Chris! We look forward to the details about this too.
--Phil Merkel was trying to complete his mamoth eagle model kit but time got to him also. I hear a valiant attempt was made to get it ready. :) Maybe Phill will send a pic when its done.
--Robert Hobby was to send a 22" AB Models build up but also ran out of time. I have seen his work and I regret not having it there to display. Rob also builds Eagles on consignment. Excellent hardly describes the work he does. He can be reached at: RH198040@MSXSCC.SHELL.COM -OR- rhobby@gs.verio.net
Here is an example of Rob's work, Its Really Exceptional:

--Victor Martyn had offered to send his award winning 12" Eagle to the con but we could not arrange it. It can be found at Starshipmodeler. Nice work and thanks to Martyn for the offer, it was appreciated never the less.
I think this is the model here: http://www.starshipmodeler.com/gallery/vm_eagle.htm
--Ellen Lindow was to bring her Eagle model but for some reason it did not make it to the display room. Reportedly there was a slight transportation mishap :)
Unfortunately I could not take pictures of these models. I'd like to ask anyone who took pictures if you could please e-mail them to me. Large files are ok. Thanks in advance and thanks to all the contributors for risking damage and loss to show their work.Barry
P.S. If I missed anyone here, please let me know.
