PLANS OF THE EAGLE by Daniel Prud'homme
The COMMAND MODULE | The SATURN V KIT
The passanger module was made quickly because, as David Sisson wrote, its basically a box. The materials used included Plexiglass and aluminum sheet. I used Daniels Plan to help lay out the edges and cuts for the ends. I used a band saw to cut out the recessed areas after etching the plexi through the paper printout with a blade.
For nearly all the cuts made I used a fence to keep the lines parallel. This helped speed the cutting, made factory like edges and ultimately allowed the parts to fit togerher with ease. I used Daniels plan to help lay out the window areas and after drilling a couple of manouvering holes, used the band saw to cut the windows out. I glued layers of material together when cutting many of the identical pieces like the six sided detail bits in the image above. Cookin' with petrol!
I used four small blocks of wood to orient the four sides together. They are held together with screws, two per end. I cut the Aluminum plate for the bottom from a sheet of 24 guage that I bought from a local truck body repair shop more than a year ago in anticipation of this part [ This modeler is in no rush to make this model :) ]. I drilled a small 3/32 hole in each corner and used a larger bit to drill a countersink for the screw heads used to secure the plate to the underside.
I left the half inch semicircle shapes from Daniels plan on the ends to mark the dowel placement. I drilled a pilot hole through the plexi and into the dowel then using a larger drill bit, made a countersink to recess the screw. A little filler over these screws and it will be sealed for good.
To this point, the Passanger module took arround 16 hours to make. I expect it will be another 8 hours before I finish it.
I'll post the last of the detailing pics and the painting of the module a little later.
