Karen Collins Liberles
In October of 1994, my husband Max and I retired from our
respective professions (President of a union for Illinois
state employees and Medical Social Worker/Addictions Counselor) and immediately
left Chicago to begin a new life in Florida. We have
fully enjoyed nearly 13 years of the Florida
active early retiree lifestyle. Max is an avid tennis player. He
has played singles tournaments all over Florida earning the state ranking of
number 1 in his division over several years. Luckily, I enjoy watching
tennis! I play Mah Jongg
and have volunteered at the local hospital and a thrift shop. Currently,
we are both on the administrative board of our synagogue and
are caretakers of the synagogue's small cemetery. Recently, Max
has become a "day trader" of stock options - - a challenging activity
that may replace his love of tennis as the aging body causes him to slow down.
We have decided that Florida
is our permanent home and we will soon move into an independent living
neighborhood of a retirement community in Fort
Myers. At the time of the EC reunion we will be
unpacking and settling into our new home.
EC often seems long ago and far away. However, the
values and principles for living learned both in the classroom and in campus
life still apply and guide my life today.
