Introduction

For many years, the only formal written instruction to assist readers with the correct

pronunciation of the chanted prayers in Gongyo, is the short guide that can be found

in traditional Gongyo books.  The current book is titled "The Liturgy of Nichiren

Daishonin's Buddhism".  Other guides, such as cassette tapes, records, CDrom

recordings, and MP3 files are available from a variety of sources.  Free MP3 sound

files are available and can be downloaded from the SGI-USA website.

EasyGongyo , offered to you on this website, is a modified version of the traditional

liturgy that will help you learn how to pronounce the words and understand the

rhythm of how they are to be chanted.

EasyGongyo has phonetic spelling aids (printed above the traditional text ), which

are to help understand the pronunciations of the sounds.  Traditional text has been

divided into pulses to help understand the timing and rhythm of how the words are

to be chanted.

EasyGongyo has made the experience of learning Gongyo, a more relaxed, enjoyable,

and encouraging practice. It is meant to ease and embellish the traditional and typical

method of one-on-one basic instruction that is customarily shared by SGI members

to persons new to this practice.

The pronunciation guides offered by the author are derived from a composition

of observation, study, and the practice of the recitation of Gongyo spanning more

than thirty years of personal practice.

EasyGongyo was authored solely by Mauro Daniele.
