Phoenix Exposed

Places the Chamber of Commerce won't tell you about.

  1. Colonel Hogan's Final Act. 7430 E. Chaparral Road (1/4 mile east of Scottsdale Road), Scottsdale. Bob Crane starred as Colonel Hogan in the 1960's sitcom Hogan's Heros. A tour of the dinner theater brought him to Scottsdale Windmill Theater in the summer of 1978. He was found bludgeoned to death at the Winfield apartments where he was staying. A video camera and an impressive library of group sex videos was found in the apartment near his body. The tapes featured him, numerous ladies and the man suspected of bludgeoning him to death with a camera tripod.
  2. The Dumpster Murder. Thirteen year old Jeremy Bach invited a classmate and rival for his girlfriend to his home to listen to music. Jeffrey claims that he accidentally shot his classmate. It was no accident that Jeremy listened to tapes for the next 2 hours while his classmate bled to death. Jeremy put the lifeless body in the dumpster where it awaited in front of the upscale Phoenix residence to be picked up by the trash collectors.
  3. Alfred Hitchock's Psycho. Psycho opens with the camera zooming in on a room not of the Bates Motel, but Jefferson Hotel in dowtown Phoenix. The hotel has been completely renovated and is now an office building.
  4. Trunks of Blood. The 26 year old bride of a 56 year old physician arrived at Los Angeles Union Station with two trunks and a valise containing the dismembered bodies of two young women with whom she had had a "relationship." When she returned to Phoenix courtesy of a police escort, 20,000 residents lined the street to catch a glimpse of the "hatchet murderess". Visit the location of most notorious crime in 1930's Phoenix.
  5. The World's First McDonald's Franchise. Those golden arches originated in California--right? Wrong! The first McDonald's arches ever, and the first McDonald's franchise ever were right here in Phoenix. Visit the location where it all started. What the heck, have a burger and fries too!
  6. The Only Marilyn Monroe Movie Filmed in Phoenix. Or...maybe not. There really was a Monroe movie filmed here, but the page isn't done. Click here, and you'll just get an error.
  7. Man Slept With His Dead Wife for Eleven Years. Frank Martinez said that he came home to find that his wife had ended her life with a bullet through the head. Rather than report the death, he left the body in the bed of their tiny trailer and continued to live with her for eleven years. He didn't report the death because he was afraid police would think it was he that shot her--just like the last time she was shot. Visit the trailer park where the couple (or half of the couple) lived. Have a burger at the restaurant where Frank tried to take his own life.
