John Gavin was born Jack Golenor on April 28, 1928. He was 31 at the time he made Psycho, his 8th film. He appeared in 10 films after Psycho including Sparticus (1960), Tammy Tell Me True (1961), and Thoroughly Modern Millie (1967). He served as president of the Screen Actor's guild and was appointed as ambassador to Mexico by President Reagon.
