Fund raising and drinking make an interesting combination this season at Edna’s Restaurant & Club in north Oklahoma City. Barflies and party people all across the metro are already familiar with Edna’s, located on the corner of N.W. 51st Street and Classen Boulevard. One of the best bars in town, Edna’s is packed 365 days a year with beer-slurpin’, shot-takin’ fools just looking to have way too much of a good time. Aside from dollar bills and a dancing bartender and owner, one of Edna’s biggest crowd pleasers is the well-known and much beloved Lunch Box. Not a lunch at all, but rather a drink made with a frightening combo of beer, orange juice and amaretto liquor, the meal in a glass is served up in a mug so frosty it will make your lips hurt. Speaking of lips, and back to the fund raising. … This holiday season, you can take the sweet taste of the Lunch Box home with you — in tube form. Yep, stockings in OKC will be overflowing with the flavorful and alcohol-free Lunch Box Lip Balm. It’s offered at Edna’s for only two bucks a pop. You see, it seems Edna’s grandson Nathan is quite the little baseball player, and baseball tournaments cost money. The lip balm is the fund-raising tool that Edna is hoping will send him all the way to Arizona for a national winter baseball tournament. Supporting little kids’ baseball teams with a lip balm flavor made famous by binge-drinking 20-somethings? The reasoning might be a little off, but the sentiment is full of Christmas cheer.
