How we got the boat:

We did not go out looking for a 40 footer.  We went to the Annapolis Sailboat show in 2002, and met some very nice people from Norton's Yacht Sales that were running the Hunter booth.  They were very plesant and encouraged us to stop by if we were ever in Deltaville, Va.  While our current boat was a Hunter (a 1981 Hunter 30), we weren't even thinking of upgrading at the time.

In the spring of 2003, we went to Deltaville, Va. to look at a 34 footer, but found both the boat and the brokerage to be less than ideal.  Since we were in town, we thought we would go by Norton's and take them up on their invitation. Norton's was just as friendly and welcoming as they were at the boat show and informed us that the docks and boats were open, and we should feel free to board and explore and let them know if we had any questions.  The one thing they did ask of us was to make sure we looked at the 1986 Hunter 40 at the end of the dock.  We told them we were not in the market, and they replaied "We don't expect you to buy it, it is just a really clean, well kept boat and you should see it!"  They were right, it was absolutely gorgeous!  Lovingingly kept, well maintained and numerous tastefull upgrades throughout.  They had the sale flier on display inthe main cabin, and we were shocked at how cheap the boat was.  It was as big and spacious and beautiful as a new 40 footer at barely over 1/4 the price of a new boat!  While we still weren't in the market, the wife and I agreed that we would have to get one of these in the future.

The Future came a little quicker than we thought.  My wife and I talked about the 40 footer often and had an occasion to take my dad to see a slightly newer 40 in late 2004.  He was inpressed with the boat, but quickly realised that we were serious about the evental upgrade.  He deceided that if we were going to get it anyway, there was no point in waiting as his time was more precious than ours.  He decided we should move right then, and with the help of Norton's Yacht Sales, we were able to acquire the boat in April of 2005, and we have enjoyed it ever since.

Upgrades and modifications:

The boat is very well equipped and much of what we do is maintain/restore the systems that are already there.  However, there have been a few new additions.

 - Harken roller reefer

 - New striping on the hull and a new name

 - Removal of the original fuel/water seperator in favor of a newer Racor unit
