Aeromedical Helicopter History
Starting with the early forties, this page outlines the "modern" helicopter's evolution as a unique rescue and medical service vehicle. A key section details "first uses" of the helicopter for various types of aeromedical and rescue activity. These events, some of which are believed to be heretofore unknown, are presented in chronological order and illustrated with rare historic photographs.
Aeromedical Picture Gallery
This page is a narrated photo display that chronicles (beginning in 1968) an early phase of the aeromedical helicopter's evolution in the United States. Early military participation and two programs, Nightingale (Norfolk, Va.) & PennSTAR (Philadelphia, Pa), are covered. Various aircraft employed by other programs round out this section. The Gallery has two sections to expedite loading.
