The 3 Moons

A Moon Mage draws on lunar mana for their spells. Whether you wish to debate if this mana comes directly from the moons, or is a by product of their movement and position in the heavens, makes little difference.
The fact is, that Elanthia's three moons play a huge role in spell casting for the Moon Mage.

I now include Grazhir in this section. I thought this might be helpful for new Moon Mage who have no idea what Grazhir was.

Yavash

The first moon we will discuss is Yavash. Yavash is the red moon. I believe that Yavash's distinctive red color comes from a high concentration of iron ore in the rock and sand that cover the surface. I also theorize that Yavash at one time had many active volcanoes on its surface. The core may very well be entirely composed of magma. I think this explains several things about the properties light reflected from Yavash has when crafted into moon weapons. It has a orbital time of a little over 6 anlaen. Due to it's coloration, reflected light from Yavash can easily be focused into a Moonbeam, regardless of day or night.

Xibar

Next we will discuss Xibar. Xibar is the "Blue" Moon. The term blue is misleading in this case though, and is just an easy way to refer to the moon. When you actually see Xibar, it appears as more of a blue-silver, or blue-white. I am certain that this is because the entire surface of Xibar is covered in ice. This would explain why moon weapons created from light reflected off of Xibar have the curious aspect of being very cold and ice like. Xibar orbits Elanthia around every 5 anlaen. Due to Xibar's color, it is very difficult to focus light reflected from it during the day. At night it is much easier to focus its light into a moonbeam.

Katamba

Katamba is the black moon... although this was not always the case. Katamba was once a beautiful golden orb that graced Elanthia's sky. The popular belief is that a great dragon of enormous size, 'hatched' from Grazhir, and charred Katamba black with its fiery breath. A great battle then ensued between the beast, and the Immortals. While there are certainly Gods, this scholar does not discount the possibility that this is a myth, and that Katamba was actually the victim of a cataclysmic celestial occurrence. Katamba orbits Elanthia in around 6 anlaen. Due to the lack of light Katamba reflects, it is very hard to focus a moonbeam from it at night. However, it's quite easy during the day.

Grazhir

Destroyed centuries before our time, Grazhir is the infamous white moon that the World Dragon supposedly 'hatched' from before scorching Katamba black with its fiery breath. Some scholars believe that the comet Zelkaes actually struck Grazhir, thus causing it's destruction. Regardless, many fragments of the moon fell to Elanthia. These fragments are very rare, and powerful. These Grazhir 'shards' if you will, function similar to a focused moonbeam and allow skilled Moon Mage's with proper knowledge, to teleport, or open moongates to the location of the 'shards'. Because of their rarity, the Moon Mage Council has given a name to each Grazhir shard that has been found. Alas, it is to my sorrow that I must report that I witnessed the destruction of one such fragment first hand. This great travesty was perpetrated by Karosti Kalestraum. At the time of this writing, he remains at large and unpunished.
