Astoshe's
Eclipse
Astoshe's Eclipse
is an enchanted ring that can bestow its wearer complete invisibility... for
a time.
*Enchantment still under research and information here
is subject to change*
Astoshe's Eclipse takes its name from Sanyrsen Astoshe Zsikiel, a famous Council Member of the Moon Mage Guild. Sanyrsen is responsible for the formation of the Gold Caps, an elite group of messengers for the Moon Mage Guild. The Gold Caps are masters of communication and stealth, and at times have been used as spies in addition to their normal duties. It comes as no surprise then that Astoshe's Eclipse is an enchantment that has to do with stealth, or more specifically, invisibility.
Items needed to construct the Astoshe's Eclipse enchantment:
* Knowledge
of the Imbue spell
* 1 ring that can be worn on your finger (the ring should appraise
1 gold kronar to ensure the success of the enchantment)
* 1 Enchanter's Burin
* A source for the sigil of the Wolf
* A source for the sigil of the Nightingale
* A source for the sigil of the Shrew
* A spell that
can activate sigils (Shadows, Dazzle or Unleash)
Steps to creating:
1. 'Spell up' with Seer's Sense, Clear Vision, Piercing Gaze and Aura Sight. This step is optional, but recommended.
2. Cast Imbue on the ring 2 times, making sure that it 'warps'. Once that is completed, you are ready to scribe the ring.
3. STUDY the Wolf constellation, or a scroll with the Wolf sigil on it, until you memorize the sigil. If you fail when studying the Wolf constellation, wait 3 minutes and try again. Scrolls are more forgiving and you may repeatedly try until you get it.
4. SCRIBE your ring with the Wolf sigil like so, SCRIBE MY RING. Remember to have the burin in your right hand. Go back to step 3 if you fail to scribe.
5. Activate the sigil. This is done by casting either Shadows, Dazzle, or Unleash on the ring. If you fail to activate the sigil before it fades away, you must go back to step 3.
6. Bind the sigil to the ring. To do this, simply FOCUS MY RING. You will get a 12 second Round Time, and a little message telling you that you need to focus on the ring again in order to permanently bind the sigil to the ring. Keep FOCUSING on the ring until you bind the sigil. If you fail to bind the Wolf's sigil before it fades, you must go back to step 3.
7. STUDY the Nightingale constellation, or a scroll with the Nightingale sigil on it, until you memorize the sigil. If you fail when studying the Nightingale constellation, wait 3 minutes and try again. Scrolls are more forgiving and you may repeatedly try until you get it.
8. SCRIBE your ring with the Nightingale sigil like so, SCRIBE MY RING. Remember to have the burin in your right hand. Go back to step 3 if you fail to scribe.
9. Activate the sigil. This is done by casting either Shadows, Dazzle, or Unleash on the ring. If you fail to activate the sigil before it fades away, you must go back to step 3.
10. Bind the sigil to the ring. To do this, simply FOCUS MY RING. You will get a 12 second Round Time, and a little message telling you that you need to focus on the ring again in order to permanently bind the sigil to the ring. Keep FOCUSING on the ring until you bind the sigil. If you fail to bind the Nightingale's sigil before it fades, you must go back to step 7.
11. STUDY the Shrew constellation, or a scroll with the Shrew sigil on it, until you memorize the sigil. If you fail when studying the Shrew constellation, wait 3 minutes and try again. Scrolls are more forgiving and you may repeatedly try until you get it.
12. SCRIBE your ring with the Shrew's sigil like so, SCRIBE MY RING. Remember to have the burin in your right hand. Go back to step 3 if you fail to scribe.
13. Activate the sigil. This is done by casting either Shadows, Dazzle, or Unleash on the ring. If you fail to activate the sigil before it fades away, you must go back to step 3.
14. Bind the sigil to the ring. To do this, simply FOCUS MY RING. You will get a 12 second Round Time, and a little message telling you that you need to focus on the ring again in order to permanently bind the sigil to the ring. Keep FOCUSING on the ring until you bind the sigil. If you fail to bind the Shrew's sigil before it fades, you must go back to step 11.
That's it, you're done.
Using the Astoshe's Eclipse enchantment:
Simply rub the ring while wearing it to turn instantly
invisible. There is no Round Time generated for this.
Example:
You rub a small golden signet ring inset
with ruby flecks.
You feel yourself flash invisible.
The invisibility will last around 11 minutes, and unlike the Moon Mage spell Refractive Field, does not have the 'shimmer' that alerts others to the presence of an invisible person in the area. I also believe this form of invisibility is immune to the effects of Unbend Sigils. You can become visible again sooner than that if you perform an action that pulls you out of invisibility... such as picking up coins, casting a spell, etc.
Recharging Astoshe's Eclipse:
A completed Astoshe's Eclipse
has a set number of uses (charges). This number is determined by the skill of
the enchanter who made it, and the value of the ring. The higher the value of
the ring, the more charges it can be made with.
You can focus on a completed Astoshe's Eclipse to see how fully charged it is.
Example:
You focus your magical senses on a glittering
crystal ring inset with precious gemstones.
You recognize the delicate pattern of the Astoshe's Eclipse enchantment.
You sense that it is roughly halfway charged with Lunar mana.
Each message
stating how charged the ring is currently is actually a range. For example 'strongly
charged' may be from 9-7 charges, 'roughly halfway charged' maybe be from 6-4
charges. Those numbers are made up to illustrate my point.
The possible charge levels are as follows:
-Fully charged
-Strongly charged
-Roughly halfway charged
-Partially charged
-Mildly charged
-Not charged
(there may be others I don't have listed yet)
At any point below "fully charged" a Moon Mage can try and recharge the enchantment with lunar mana, thus attempting to restore it to its maximum number of charges. To do this simply hold the ring in your right hand and CHARGE MY RING. It takes about half of your attunement to attempt this, regardless of whether or not you succeed in charging the ring. You may have to charge the ring many times in order to return it to 'fully charged', depending on how depleted it is. You should be aware that it takes AT LEAST 350 ranks in Magical Devices to even have a chance at this. I really recommend 400 ranks unless you don't mind sitting there trying it over and over, waiting for you attunement to come back each time.
Miscellaneous information:
There is a timer on the ring that has been dubbed a 'cool down' timer. This timer prevents the ring from working again until a specific amount of time has passed. It is believed that this timer is between 10 - 12 hours. The timer may fluctuate depending on the skill of the enchanter who created it. Note: The timer will count down even while you are not in game.
There is also a personal timer on your character that prevents you from using another Astoshe's Eclipse before a certain amount of time has passed. This timer is around 1 hour and also counts down even if you are not in game.
Remember how I said you need a ring that is at least worth 1 gold in value for the enchantment to work? Well if you want to, you can use really expensive rings to make this enchantment with the advantage that the more expensive the ring is the ring will have a larger potential number of charges, providing you have the skill to take advantage of this. This is because it takes more skill to get that maximum number. Having a more expensive ring just opens up the possibility, it doesn't guarantee more charges. It also takes more skill to recharge an expensive ring due to this. For example: You make invisibility rings out of a ring valued at 1 gold, and a ring valued at 1 platinum. The ring valued at 1 gold may turn out to be fully charged, while the ring valued at 1 platinum may turn out to be partially charged. At the same time it will be harder to charge that partially charged 1 platinum ring up to fully charged, than it would be to re-charge the 1 gold ring up to its fully charged state. Again, this is because the fully charged 1 gold ring may only have 5 charges, while the partially charged 1 platinum ring can hold up 15 charges, you just didn't have the skill to make it with that many initially. However, what you can do is take the ring to another more skilled Moon Mage and have them charge it up to a 'fully charged' state for you.
