Divination
Bones
Divination bones
are the favored prediction tool of the Nomads of the Arid Steppe for predicting
the future.
*Enchantment still under research and information here
is subject to change*
Divination bones are one of the five tools Moon Mages can use to predict the future. However, they are the only prediction tool that can currently be made by players. What follows are instructions for creating your own divination bones.
Items needed to construct divination bones:
* A boar
tusk, or one of the other materials that work
* 1 Enchanter's Burin
* A source for the sigil of the Ram
* Some white and black skaefarees oil (Sold in Xathvier's Enchanting
shop in Old Throne City)
* A source for
the Celestial sigil of one of the three moons. It doesn't matter which one.
* A spell that can activate sigils (Shadows, Dazzle or Unleash)
Steps to creating:
1. 'Spell up' with Seer's Sense, Clear Vision, Piercing Gaze and Aura Sight. This step is optional, but recommended.
2. STUDY the Ram constellation or a scroll with the sigil of the Ram on it until you memorize the sigil. If you fail studying the Ram constellation, wait 3 minutes and try again. Scrolls are more forgiving and you may keep trying until you get it.
3. Holding your burin in your right hand and the tusk
in your left, SCRIBE MY TUSK. This will put red
lines on the tusk in a pattern for you to use when you carve the tusk.
Example:
You carefully scribe the sigil of the constellation
of The Ram upon the boar tusk with your burin.
The sigil glows red and stripes across the boar tusk, showing outlines of the
various bones to carve.
The sigil seems to melt into the boar tusk.
4. Holding your knife in your right hand and the tusk
in your left, CARVE MY TUSK (or other material).
You will get around a 15 second Round TIme and this will start the process of
turning the tusk into bones. You will notice that instead of holding a boar
tusk in your hand you will now be holding boar bones.
Example:
You begin by carving the Krr-tich
bone from the boar tusk, following the red outline from the sigil.
The boar bones begin to take shape.
5. From here on out you will have to CARVE MY BONES.
Do this 19 more times! The Moon Sphere carvings take over twice as long as the
rest of the carvings, so be ready for a few minutes of carving. Note:
This teaches Mechanical Lore very well.
Here are the 19 carving steps if you're interested, if
not, scroll down to step 6.
You continue to carve the Krr-tich
bone, notching it out.
You continue to carve the Krr-tich bone, working on the details.
You begin the process of carving the Sek-rith bone, basing it on the red outline of the sigil.
You continue to carve the Sek-tich bone, notching it out.
You turn the carving knife slightly to better round out the shape, completing the Sek-rith bone.
You begin to carve out the Moon Sphere, realizing this will be the most involved part of the creation process.
You twist the carving knife slightly, notching the top of the Moon Sphere's shape.
You continue to whittle the Moon Sphere into shape until you are rewarded with a completed, multi-faceted blank bone.
Holding the carving knife in a tight grip and peering carefully, you start to notch the symbols representing the various areas of magical knowledge into the sphere.
You turn the boar bones slightly and begin notching the symbols for the varied types of armor.
You shift your grip on the Moon Sphere and delicately form the different emblems of lore specialization.
You hunch over a smooth portion of the Moon Sphere and meticulously start shaping the images of several survival techniques.
You shift your weight and concentrate on keeping your hand steady as you fashion the remaining survival images.
With great care, you press the carving knife against an uncarved portion of the Moon Sphere and begin to carve the symbols for various weapons.
Gazing intently at the boar bones you brace yourself and finish carving the weapon symbols across the various facets then roll the completed Moon Sphere in your fingers to check its balance.
You begin to carve the Sun Disk into shape, first by trimming away the unnecessary bits.
You continue to work on the Sun Disk, shaping down each side until even.
Working on one side, you carve the edges of the Sun Disk into a gentle curve.
You carve the second edge of the Sun Disk into a smooth curve, then shake the four completed bones in your hand.
6. Okay, now that you
have your bones fully carved, it's time to dye the Sun Disk, and paint the markings
on the Moon Sphere. Holding either the White or Black skaefarees oil in your
right hand, and the bones in your left, DIP MY BONES IN
MY OIL. You will do this 4 times. Note: Supposedly it can affect your
bones depending on which color you use first. I believe the color you use first
is the color the sun disk can attune to, but I haven't fully tested this. You
must DIP your bones twice in each color, alternating
between the colors. (4 dips total)
Example:
You carefully dip
one face of the Sun Disk into the white oil while trying to keep the other face
free of the dye.
You manage to spread it fairly evenly.
You dip the Sun Disk in the
some black skaefarees oil and stir it carefully trying to even up to the white
without overlapping.
You manage to spread it fairly evenly.
You dip the Moon Sphere in
the some white skaefarees oil and stir it carefully trying to mark the various
notchings in white.
You manage to spread it fairly evenly.
You dip the Moon Sphere in
the some black skaefarees oil and stir it carefully trying to contrast the markings
against the white.
You manage to spread it fairly evenly.
7. Now, to complete the bones you must scribe and bind a sigil from one of the moons on them. Any moon's sigil will do. STUDY either Xibar, Yavash, or Katamba until you memorize the sigil. Alternately you may use a scroll if you have one. If more than one moon is up and you fail on your first try, go ahead and try a different moon while you are waiting for the 3 minute timer to expire. If using a scroll you can keep trying until you get it.
8. Holding your burin in your right hand and the bones in your left, SCRIBE MY BONES. If the sigil fails to sink in, go back to step 7.
9. Activate the sigil with an activator spell. (Shadows, Dazzle, Unleash) If you fail to activate the sigil before it fades, you must go back to step 7.
10. Bind the sigil to the bones. To do this, simply FOCUS MY BONES. You will get a 12 second Round Time, and a little message telling you that you need to focus on the bones again in order to permanently bind the sigil. Keep FOCUSING on the bones until you bind the sigil. If you fail to bind the sigil before it fades, you must go back to step 7.
That's it, you're done. If you want to check the quality of your work you will need bond to the bones first. Simply RUB the bones and then LOOK at them to see how well you made them. If you want to sell the bones, simply INVOKE them to release your bond to them.
